I’ve been coming here for years when traveling through Orange, VA, even before covid, and them closing. They closed and reopened. I didn’t have any issues with the restaurant before they closed. After reopening, I was excited to drive 2 hours to try them out. Ive been several times since. Sad to say, it’s just not the same. Today was the worst. Quality of food has gone down, and the staff is NOT ATTENTIVE! waited over 15min. for waitress to take our order, and we were the only ones in there. (Friday 11:15am) Wait staff were all in the middle room where they get drinks, talking and gossiping. I could hear them and was sitting over by window. We finally had to flag our waitress to come to the table. Wait staff definitely needs more training or someone watching over them to attend to costumers. Really miss the friendly customer service and good breakfast and lunch from YEARS ago.

Today, after being going there many times, was our last time. The server was so rude and childish, and the managers careless. Last time we invited our parents to have a special diner with us and it was a hair in one of the plates, nobody did anything. But we decided to give them another chance. First, the server didn’t know about the “special gift” that they were offering for people who dine in on Valentine’s day, we asked because we did know if it was a special meal that we have to order for that. But I ended looking online to show her what I was talking about. After that she didn’t come back to the table for a while and when she finally did, she just ask if everything was fine and keep walking away. My husband needs a drink refill and told her that he was sorry to tell her she was not a good server, because she didn’t even stop to notice his cup was empty and never came back after served the drinks for first time. She got so upset that she brought the drink and slang it to the table and walk away. Then I asked one of the managers to change her and they did it but they came back to the table around 10 minutes after to let.us know and the server came when we were finished. I returned the “gift ” to the other manager and let him know we were not coming back, but he really seems that doesn’t care either. Now I notice a lot of reviews talking about the servers, how they gossiping and talked on the corners. It is true because when I went.to talk with the manager first time our server was talking and laughing about the situation. We really wants to support local businesses, the food was not the greatest but was edible. and we can deal with the lack of seasonings but not with bad customer service or careless about your clients. I understand they are hiring very young people, I worked with teenagers before, but we trained them to be respectful, polite and care about the service. Without good service your business is not going to last. And saying your are sorry on the reviews but not doing anything to fix it shows that the management and even the the owner doesn’t care.

Left one star so I could leave a review. Visited this restaurant on Monday, Sept 22, 2025 about 530pm. I was visiting from out of town and have to say this was the absolute worst place I have eaten in a very long time. I actually got very sick after eating here and was sick for about 3 days after. I had a salad and chicken fried chicken with a bake potato. I also had green beans. The chicken was still a little pink inside when I got to the middle. I should’ve cut it on first. Not sure how you can mess up a baked potato but it had a very strong Sulphur taste. The green beans tasted like they were dumped out of a can and not even warmed up. The employees were complaining about someone having called in and didn’t show for work. One middle-aged man was talking about having been called in to cook and he was mad about it so he didn’t even attempt to do things properly. I heard him tell someone he just dumped the veggies on the hot bar straight from the containers they were in. 3 younger girls were standing around gossiping about something that happened in their personal lives. I do not recommend this place at all to anyone.

2nd vist, food is good. It fills the itch for a buffet style dinner my husband always talks about and priced fairly. The buffet was clean and they where quick on restocking food.

I had to chase down someone for something to drink 5 different times.
Our waitress was too busy talking to the other servers.
I kept checking the kitchen for our food and once I saw it was ready I had to go chase after that!
The servers in there are not bothered about working.
They definitely need people with more wait experience!

I love this place, I’ve Loved this place when I was growing up, though it is Under New Management per se, but the original managers are here. So the reality is it hasn’t changed very much other than who owns it. My only for real issue with it now is that the prices are exuberant on Sundays. They do this brunch thing or something they call it on Sunday and it’s about twice as expensive on Sundays. Me and my GF went there earlier in the week and for two of us it was around $25 and I was expecting that on Sunday and it was double that. So I will not be returning on Sundays!

Today my husband and I ate lunch for the second time at the new Country Cookin Depot in Orange, Va., and we LOVED it both times! KINLEIGH M took care of us in a beautiful way! She was sweet and attentive at all times and made sure we had everything we needed. The food on the Salad Bar is fabulous! Delicious and plenty of it – hot vegetables, rolls and soup and an amazing salad bar with every goodie you could want. Then – if you are not already stuffed – the real STAR of the show is the Warm Peach Cobbler with ice Cream on top. I’m glad I lived long enough (at 84) to be able to swoon over this cobbler- it is homemade on site and is beyond amazing. Now we know every time we go to Orange, Va., we will arrange any other appointment at a time that allows us to eat a DE-licious lunch at our new favorite – Country Cookin Depot! Go there and you will leave like us – Happy!! Be sure to ask for Kinleigh M.
