Reviews
The dining room is spacious with many booths available as well as high chairs and a booster seat.
We had the filet mignon and shrimp hibachi and an order of six gyoza. Everything tasted great. They also give a generous portion of yum yummy sauce—at least 1/3 if not a 1/2 cup or more.
The ONLY weak point is the ambiance and decor. The potential is there with those decorative booths that just scream for quiet, intimate dinners where you would feel obligated to remove your shoes in order to dine. I hope that one day they put a few dollars into that part because this place could transport a diner East and feel believeable.
New Yamazato has replaced my previous favorites. Strong contenders too as I love Koto (still do for large gatherings), Yamato-Fort Ave, Osaka- Wards, New Yamada- Forest, Oishii- Waterlick- are all known for their solid take out Hibachi. There are of course several other honorable mentions in our area, but don’t make the cut when it comes to quality and a few, even the listed above have dropped dramatically lately overall.
For many in our region, driving to Madison Heights isn’t an option due to heavy traffic volumes. But if you live near Amelon Square and you love Hibachi, or if you want to be pleasantly surprised by giving them a shot and making the drive, you’ll be glad you did.
My order- Hibachi Filet and Shrimp
Total of 4 orders in a row. 20$ and change gets me two meals because the leftovers inevitably become tomorrow’s lunch due to large portions.
The Onions, Mushrooms, Zucchini and broccoli are cooked just right with that perfect soft to crunch ratio. The jumbo shrimp are ACTUALLY jumbo and have yet to be overcooked- (especially considering how they last even after the drive home) and my filet- I go for medium and they nail it. Fried rice is top notch and unlike the others isn’t used at the “filler” to create a facade of value. They don’t skimp on the good stuff. My beef is marinated, cooked to perfection and tender. Even the next day out of the microwave the food from New Yamazato is better than what I’ve had fresh at the table at other Hibachi Style Japanese Restaurants.
If you made it this far, thanks for reading and I hope you love the food as much as I did!
