We had a delicious dinner. They had a paella special that night so we put in an order right away as that always takes extra time. Honestly my favorite food was the tomato’s on bread. It was sooo delicious. I could’ve had a lot of those as my entree – definitely worth a try. Drinks were delicious. Paella and the bean appetizer were delicious. Everything tasted fresh. Staff was attentive. They were very busy but we had an early reservation and snagged a great booth. I would strongly recommend making reservations.

The vibe here was very good, the service was good, not overly attentive but still good. The food was good not great, wine selection was limited but adequate. All in all it was a good dining experience but nothing special enough to bring me back again, especially for the prices attached to food that didn’t do much for me.

Went here for a birthday dinner, and we cannot stop talking about how wonderful our experience was. Our server was super kind and knowledgeable, and every single dish tasted out of this world— especially the ribs and tuna. Such a cool establishment right on Franklin. Cannot recommend enough!!

This has become my favorite new restaurant in the triangle. My wife took me here for a second time to celebrate my birthday and we shared perhaps seven different small plates, all wonderful and I think the tab was just at $100. Everything was incredibly fresh and you could tell the ingredients were all chosen with care.
For those who dine solo, I actually think this would be a great restaurant to do so since they have an inviting counter where you can sit, watch the open kitchen prepare the courses for the whole restaurant.

Excellent! Great food. Great service. Great decor. Love the complimentary sparkling water. Many dishes surprised me. Very dark in the back. Will come back for the dishes we didn’t try. And best of all it’s a Resy restaurant so the new Amex Platinum credit will work here. This place fills up quickly so make a reservation.

Delicious Spanish food and beverages in a lovely little restaurant on Franklin St.
A nice range of Tapas plates and amazing paella. We had a hard time narrowing down our choices and are planning to go back to get ones we missed. All of the food tasted fresh and prepared to perfection. Excellent array of wines by the glass so you can try something new. Do save room for dessert! Service was excellent; knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive.

Do not sleep on this restaurant. Queso de Oveja and Pan con Tomate were wonderful. Atun ceviche was amazing, bright and light with the dill. Toro and Patatas Bravas were wonderful (love the Bravas paired with potato!). Finished our evening with the sponge cake with cardamom, strawberries and cream. This is one of the best meals I’ve ever had. Well done!

So right out the gate, Promixo has a good vibe. They even have a projector projecting their name on the ground outside the building. They have both counter seating and booth seating. The counter seats are a cool concept because you can see you food being made, but the seat are right beside the front door, so on a cold night, it’s not ideal. The booths are huge enough to feel 6 average size people. Plenty of space. The food was really good. We had tapas in Charlotte and wanted to try tapas in Chapel Hill. Our server was kind and very knowledgeable, and the food came out fast. The reason why i took off a star was for the Swordfish and Tomatillo tapas… the swordfish was great on it’s own, but with the tomatillo… it was a no for me. But I would recommend Proximo. I would just tell people to also bring their wallet. Oh! I just remember why it was $50-100… we had 2 orders of the steak tapas and the patata bravas tapas. They were that good.

Somehow, this new jewel of a restaurant magically appeared in the middle of the block directly across from the UNC campus, in a stretch that historically catered to either students or tourists visiting for a sporting event.
Cutting to the chase: It’s another excellent offering by Chef Brandon Sharp (Hawthorne & Wood, Bluebird). It’s great. You should go.
The details: Elevated Spanish tapas. Small plates, authentic top shelf-ingredients, thoughtful flavor and texture pairings, both authentic and re-imagined Spanish dishes, excellently curated Spanish wines, knowledgeable and friendly qait staff.
Sit at the counter for the ‘show’ (full view of the kitchen), or in the back for cozy and dimly lit booths.
Highly recommended!

We’ve been to our fair share of tapas spots and all of the chef’s current digs. Proximo was good, but I think it’s trying too hard. The service was excellent. Our server knew everything (except what a paella was). He helped pair some fabulous wines and cordials. The cheese selections and the desserts were absolutely top notch and memorable. The other dishes were just alright. Unfortunately our ribs were a bit dry and the iberico was somewhat tasteless. The wine selection is short but unique and the lack of liquor license is a bit odd, considering their other spots have them. The price was great, but the dishes are rushed. Like, supersonic speed coming from the kitchen. I expected to spend some time there but everything happened so fast, we were in and out…not like a typical tapas. So, take that for what you will and maybe because it’s a small seated area, their expectation is you come and go? Not sure, but I think they’re trying something here that misses the mark.
Quick Edit: I don’t know what some of the reviews are saying that you have difficulty choosing dishes and couldn’t order all of them. Honestly, this place is so affordable. If you’re a foodie, and you’re coming here to review, there’s no reason you can’t fit the bill to try them all. We almost completed the menu and with a bottle of reserve wine and were quite happy with the overall price.
