Poindexter, situated in the Hilton Graduate Hotel, kind of occupies a middle grey area between coffee shop, brunch restaurant, and bar. Despite being located in a hotel, most customers are local students. I like the decor, there’s lots of eclectic little pieces to look at, hidden in corners all over the space.
I wasn’t sure where to order when I walked in. There’s a small bar with a few seats that was manned by a bartender and another counter by the baked goods display that had paper food menus and a drink menu but was unattended for a while. Eventually someone came out to the second counter and took my order. They gave me a number for my table and said they would bring my food out, but when it was ready they called my name and I had to go get it myself and take the number back.
I got:
Vegan tenders: I thought the tenders were very good and tasted close to real chicken tenders. They come with the option of regular or sweet potato fries. I got sweet potato fries and thought they were fine but average, maybe a little oily. Choice of dipping sauce is also included – I loved their honey mustard. There’s also ketchup and hot sauce available at the condiment stand.
Chocolate chip cookies: I really wanted these oatmeal cookies they had in the display but I was told the display cookies were old and they had chocolate chip instead. I thought I was just getting one cookie but I guess one order is two cookies. I thought they were nothing remarkable and a little dry.
Sincronici-tea: This was a seasonal drink – white chocolate blueberry matcha latte with cashew milk. The flavours were interesting but I could barely taste the matcha.
Prices are maybe a little on the high side but acceptable; the meals are like restaurant food rather than cafe food. For the high end ambiance it seems like they’re going for, it would be nice if the cookies and drink didn’t come in takeout containers.
Overall, I wasn’t too impressed but would give it another chance. I wouldn’t get matcha again.

It’s a very college centered bar and coffee shop. It was better before the remodel, they had more comfortable seating options. Not it’s a lot of high tops and it’s often loud. Overall, decent place to study if you have headphones.

The ambiance of this place is great. You’ll love to get some work done. But let’s talk about food. I specifically came for the Mango Tango Chicken Sandwich. But this one of those occasions where as always, simpler is much better. There was too much ingredients in this sandwich for any to shine. Hence overall turned out to be bland. The Coconut Milk and Pistachio Syrup was so and so. Nothing special. It was a strong coffee though. I also ordered a Tomato Soup thinking it’s the well known Tomato Soup. But it was Chillie. I could have asked for a explanation, but Tomatoe Soup is Tomato Soup, not Chillie. So all in all a disspointing food experience.

Lovely coffee shop. Great for studying! Randomly ran into Patty LuPone when I was here once because she was staying at the graduate hotel. Cool experience.

Poindexter cafe is inside The Graduate hotel. The students at the University of Indiana hang out in the lobby and here at this cafe to study. Their parents usually check in here when they’re in town to visit their college student.

Really cool space, loved the vintage cookie jars.
The mocha was just ok, the issue was the wait.

For having 3 people behind the counter and no line of customers a 15min wait is too long for one drink.

Located in The Graduate Hotel. Ordered an iced matcha latte with classic syrup and a kids hot chocolate. First round, no classic syrup was added. Second round, was given two sugar packets. Third round, got it right. The hot chocolate was incredibly sweet. Too sweet for me let alone my toddler. The asiago bagel and breakfast burritos were pretty tasty. Friendly service and great atmosphere surrounded by classic cookie jars.

Oh my gosh I absolutely love this cafe! It’s the perfect spot for working, relaxing with a book, or talking with a friend/colleague. Being from Portland, OR, I always love finding places that feel like home to me and this place is spot on! It captures a balance of unique and cozy!

The food is good but HEAVY. There is not much for options of lighter meals. The salads leave a lot to be desired. However, the coffee and espresso drinks are fantastic!
