The food is amazing! Tried 15 different items within the past two dinners and they were all delicious. Best Chinese food in the Bay Area. Will be my new go to for cantonese family style.

Loved the truffle duck, skin was super crispy (must reserve beforehand). Squab is also cooked super well, the skin is so crispy. Meat is juicy and flavorful. Must order truffle fried rice or golden egg fried rice, there was SO much “wok hay.” Every kernel of rice was coated in flavor. You can tell the chef’s skill when tasting their fried rice and it is beautifully done at Won Kok Millbrae. Salted egg yolk shrimp or crab is also delicious. Not one bad thing to say which is super rare for me AND for a Chinese restaurant. The only downside is how popular it is with the locals and it’s hard to book. But even with a full house, the kitchen is able to crank out deliciousness. We prefer this location to the SF one.

This restaurant has taken over the old Peninsula Pearl spot (this location seems to change ownership quite often). A friend told me the dim sum is better now under new management, so we decided to give it a try.
We came for lunch and made a reservation since dim sum places can get pretty packed. The interior looks exactly the same as before — no noticeable updates.
We ordered a couple of dim sum platters, veggies, and porridge. Overall, the food was actually very good this time. Everything was tasty and well-prepared except for the pork knuckle, which was a bit tough. I couldn’t help comparing it to a nearby restaurant that is famous for their fried pork knuckle.
Prices are about the same as other dim sum spots around the city — nothing surprising there.
The only downside for me was the suggested minimum 18% gratuity added on top of total + tax. I know this has become common at many Bay Area restaurants, but it’s still frustrating to see.
Overall: better food than before, fair pricing, but not fancy of suggested minimum gratuity.

Stopped in for dinner. Didn’t care for the table they sat us at. Ordered oxtail with tendon, mapo tofu, vermicelli with mixed veggie, house style rib, and pig trotter with peanuts. Oxtail and tendons were tender and had good flavor. Mapo tofu is different than other restaurants, not bad but I prefer more traditional style. House style ribs were delicious kinda familiar taste but little different. Pig trotters could have been a little more tender but the flavor was good and the peanuts were substituted from lotus root. Overall good food and service was good but we had to flag them down a lot. A bit pricey for Chinese food in my opinion.

Won Kok Millbrae opened in November 2025 where Asian Pearl was last. Won Kok has had a location on Monterey Blvd in San Francisco for many years. This spot has updated decor from the previous restaurant along with a temporary wall to sub divide the room.
The menu is pretty straightforward old school traditional Cantonese dim sum. Not a lot of modern or cutesy dishes.

Millbrae has a number of decent dim sum spots within a couple miles, far more than most regions. Always wonder why someone would open another spot in such a saturated area. I’d rank this spot above nearby Hong Kong Palace but not as good as HL Peninsula. Service was about average for Chinese restaurants. Although the food is decent for Millbrae, it is probaby better than most elsewhere.

Won Kok is worth a try if you are tired of going to the usual spots like Yan Peninsula, Hong Kon Palace or the Kitchen.

Food Review:
Shrimp dumplings or Har gow ( Large) had 4 small ones. Not a lot of flavor and the wrapper broke taking it out. 8/10

Steamed BBQ Pork Buns ( Med) are very large and very doughy. Not great. 7/10

Purple Rice noodle roll with Shrimp ($9.20) are not as modern as HL’s but still had a nice crispy texture and color. 8.5/10

Deep Fried Scallop Turnip Cake ( Med) are a fried version on the classic. Couldn’t taste that much scallop. 7.5/10

Portugese Egg Tarts (Med) had 3 small ones. 2 lacked much torching. 7.5/10

Deep Fried Sesame Balls (Med) had 3 smaller ones. Lots of filling but not too sweet. 8/10

Fried Glutinous Rice Dumpling (Med) were large and hot out of the fryer. Not enough meat inside. 8/10

Won kok signature empress chicken ($25 half) was large but on the bland side. Even the dipping sauce was subdued. 6.5/10

Beef Chow Fun was of decent size and had a good amount of meat. Not overly greasy. 8/10

This was my first time trying this restaurant, and the food was just average. However, they had a wide variety of dishes to choose from. Perhaps the other dishes were better. I’ll definitely try other food there next time! Stay tuned for more updates!
