We have had BBQ all over the country and this was some of THE BEST!
The pulled pork sliders were very tasty arriving with the cole slaw on top already (I wanted more it was so good).
The Baked Beans, wow!
Hubby had the pulled pork sandwich, again… so tasty and flavor.
The fries were hot and crispy, very nicely seasoned.
If you are in the Sedona / Cottonwood area Hog Wild BBQ is a must visit!

I never bother anymore counting stars. If I take the time to give a review, you’d better believe it. OMG. I finally found an original barbecue in Arizona! This restaurant is nicely tucked away in the beautiful Verde Canyon railroad/Cottonwood/ Sedona area. I highly recommend this nice trip and place to eat!
PS you’ll wanna leave the delicious sauce on your face!!!!

Generous portions and great smokey flavor! I’m giving it 4 stars because it was too dry for my liking. Instead of loose meat piled on the bun, it was a perfectly formed, tight ball of meat (reminded me of a school lunch). Perhaps they squeezed all of the juice out when scooping it up??

Quick service, nice patio seating, and great value!

My husband absolutely loves the brisket!!! I love the pulled pork. Sometimes the pork can be dry! My son ordered the kids pulled pork and didn’t get any fries with his order or a drink. The deep fried pickles are amazing!!

Hubby and I ordered out usual… Get home, our deep fried pickles are not coated! Hard as a rock, and very greasy! My husbands brisket wasn’t was nasty. My pulled pork was ok, but definitely not the best! I called and a new employee answered. Not understandable besides to call in the morning. These pickles used to be amazing and the food was great… Not sure what has happened, not sure about going back this time :/

We came out to Cottonwood to do some camping and ATV / Dirt bike riding over the weekend. Someone recommended Hog Wild BBQ so we gave it a try. I must say, I have been to BBQ in different parts of the country and this is the Best BBQ in the West. Friendly staff and nice outdoor dining made it even better.

My wife and I stopped at Hog Wild BBQ while on vacation. The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating, which is nice. You place your order at the front and your food is brought to you by one of the staff. The menu has typical bbq fare. We ordered the sampler platter which includes a half rack of baby back ribs, a half pound of pulled pork, and a half pound of brisket. Four rolls and three sides come with the platter, and we selected cole slaw, baked beans, and potato salad. From the time we ordered to when we were served was probably 10 minutes. For two people the sampler platter was more than enough food.

I always regret not asking how brisket is served if it’s not specifically indicated or being sliced in front of me, as I strongly prefer brisket to be sliced rather than shredded. I forgot to do that and the brisket here appears to be shredded by default. It was served as kind of a mound and there was an odd moisture differential, with extremely moist brisket at the top and dry brisket at the bottom. I suspect that they pour some juice over the brisket before it is served and not all of it diffused through the meat. The texture of brisket is harder to evaluate shredded, but we felt it was somewhat tough. The flavor didn’t really stand out.

The pulled pork I thought was a little better, with decent moistness, tenderness, and average flavor. I find pulled pork hard to evaluate because it’s a pretty resilient meat that is hard to do wrong.

The baby back ribs were my favorite thing that we had. The flavor of these was good and they were moist. They were slightly on the side of being too tender as the meat started to come off the bone very easily, but it wasn’t like the meat was falling apart. The ribs appear to be cooked and served sauced. My recommendation would be to serve the racks with the ribs cut individually to facilitate eating.

The tomato based sauce that the restaurant uses I actually really liked. The vinegar based sauce basically tasted like a mild vinegar and had a slightly-off flavor that I couldn’t quite place. I did not like it very much. The sides were all fine, with none of them really standing out. The rolls were pretty much the same way.

In terms of other things in the restaurant, if you want things like pickles, onions, or jalapeños, you order them with the rest of your meal at the beginning. I think we were given something like 5 or 6 pickle slices total, which is obviously not a lot. The utensils are plastic and plates are paper. I think I would prefer metal utensils given that I prefer to cut my ribs individually (again, would not be a problem if they came pre-cut). Also it would be nice if they had some table side wet wipes to clean hands after eating, though apparently they had a sink inside in the opposite direction of the one I was facing.

Overall, I think it’s a mostly middle-of-the-road experience. The ribs are above average and I would come back for those from time to time if we lived nearby, but the rest of the food didn’t blow me away.
