Lotus Cafe in Hackensack is illegal levels of good. Pork fried rice was smoky and greasy in a soul-healing way, shrimp lo mein had perfect noodle bounce, and the boneless spare ribs were basically candy. The pork egg roll was thick, crispy, and loud, and the General Tso’s chicken? Crispy, saucy, sweet-heat chaos done right.

Big portions, zero misses. This place doesn’t just serve Chinese food—it asserts dominance.

Another great meal at Lotus Cafe in Hackensack. We had Young Chow fried rice with shrimp, Ta Loo Mein with pork, shrimp, eggs, tofu. We also had Shrimp in X.O and spicy orange prawns. Great menu selection and variety. Delicious as always with great portions. Excellent service every time.

The food was realllly good, but before when they are offering their special of the day. My friend said, “okay” after he said they had the founder and the waiter took it as a “yes” and after about 10 min after we got what we ordered we got a whole fish delivered to our table. We explained we hadn’t ordered it but it was a misunderstanding. We ended up keeping it and honestly it was really good (just doubled our meal in price unexpectedly)

I went out of my way tonight for one thing: egg drop soup. I ordered egg drop soup and vegetable fried rice, and even asked about a small string bean, so the order should have been clear.

When I got home, there was no soup at all — the entire reason I went there. Instead, I was given fried rice and an egg roll, an item I did not order and no soup!. Since I don’t know what was in the rice, I didn’t even feel comfortable eating it.

I called immediately to let them know, and the woman on the phone hung up on me. When I called back, I was told it was a “bad connection,” which felt dismissive rather than an attempt to fix the mistake.

Mistakes happen, but the lack of basic customer service, accountability, and the total inconvenience caused are unacceptable. This was frustrating and a complete waste of time. I won’t be returning.

One of the best Chinese food restaurant in the area! We have been going to this restaurant from last 18-20 years and we absolutely love the food, the place is always packed and the food is always fresh and delicious!
Very beautiful decor very clean and spacious from inside, the staff is the same from long time, and the service is very fast and friendly!

For years my wife and I had been coming to this restaurant, and up to now, there hadn’t been any disappointment, or complaints. Especially, as an x o beef aficionado, I keep coming back for more, and never been unsatisfied. As a Zagat rating, and now TripAdvisor, I give them 5 Starts rating for food, service and price. There’s no other restaurant that can match this one, not yet.

This restaurant has been around for years, and I finally felt the need to write a review because of how much it has changed—unfortunately, not for the better.

The biggest improvement is definitely the décor. It used to look very dated, but they’ve made an effort to modernize the space and it shows. Sadly, that’s where the positives end.

The food has declined noticeably. Dishes that used to be flavorful, like the Ma Po Tofu with Minced Pork, are now bland and forgettable. My Hot & Sour Soup was so lacking in taste that I had to add salt just to get through it. Overall, the food looks and smells appetizing, but the flavors just don’t deliver anymore. What used to feel like the occasional “off day” now feels like the norm.

The service has also gone downhill. Staff members used to be friendly and attentive, but now they’re cold and disengaged. It takes raising your hand multiple times just to be acknowledged, and even then, they often don’t come back. Getting basic service feels like a chore. To make matters worse, they push for cash tips despite the poor service, which is frustrating.

It’s disappointing to see a place we once loved decline so much. At this point, it feels like it’s no longer worth our time or money, and we’ll likely be finding another spot for Chinese food.

This is an awesome Chinese spot in Hackensack to get some comfort Chinese food. Their shrimp toast is one of my go-tos and they have a lot of great options like shrimp soong, tangerine beef, fried seafood dumplings, etc. My go-to in the area!
