They exceeded all expectations. Food was homemade and expertly cooked. Pork was moist and rich with flavors. Bbq sauce was sweet, great taste if you like sweet sauce. Fried Green tomatoes had a cornmeal mix that worked very well paired with ranch. Onion rings were beer battered and yummy. Bbq beans were sooooo good.

People are super nice and helpful. I love family owned business and love to support them. The service was top notch. First thing I noticed is so many Flys I was constantly waving my hand to keep Flys off my food. All the food was very salty. Fried green tomatoes were thick slices, which how i love it. The tomatoes were dropped on top of the hamburger steak and had gravy all of them to. Should have been on a separate plate. They were good besides that. Asked for gravy, onions and mushrooms. But got gravy, onions and peppers. Wasn’t good. Texas toast was dry. And to much salt in the potato salad. Also had to wait for 20 minutes for my food, but considering it was a small restaurant I think this is going to be normal. But we’ll worth the wait if the food is good. It was worth a try, even though I left feeling very unsatisfied, I’m not sure I would repeat.

It is worth the drive to eat at the Shoal Creek Market & Grill in Heflin. Their sign says “Best Gas Station Food Ever” and they are not exaggerating. The hamburger steak with gravy, onions and peppers is amazing, as was the grilled squash medley. We found this place while taking the back roads through Alabama and definitely recommend this grill. The staff is awesome and went out of the way to make sure our visit was pleasurable.
