Went with my gf here to knock out another coffee list off our list. Iced coffee was but the pupusas were meh
Had better and I’m salvadorean so I judge a little heavier. lol sorry
But the staff was super friendly and on it even though they looked short staff. But going back for sure.

Mexes Cafe is a cute, quaint and dainty spot that really eminates with the essence of la familia y tradicion. I appreciate the vibe because it really reminds me of home. The art and the ambience really call to me and I have to give it a high recommendation without even talking about the drinks and food yet. On that note, I had pupusas and two lattes, one of which was a mazapan latte and the other was the horchata latte. I loved the fact that you could choose your own design on the latte. The mazapan latte, literally had such a nostalgic feel because it tastes exactly like the de la rosa candy. As for the horchata latte, you can never go wrong with that. It was very sweet, with that coffee undertone to make a great balance. I genuinely recommend visiting this spot because if you are in the mood for good vibes and good times!

I really wanted to love this place so bad. I actually came because I saw a TikTok saying this Latina-owned coffee shop was struggling, so I wanted to support and try it out yesterday. I ordered two seasonal gingerbread lattes, and since the price wasn’t listed, I didn’t think much of it because most of their drinks looked like they were around $7–$9. But my total came out to $28… meaning each coffee was $14?! Unfortunately, that’s a no for me. Way too pricey.

“I’m not sure if it was just an off day or if this is the standard level of service, but we waited over an hour for our order. The ‘café de la olla’ was tasteless, and the burrito was small (though the flavor was okay). We ordered huevos rancheros but were served huevos a la mexicana instead. The tortillas were cold. I always try to support local businesses and I understand that bad days happen, but there was absolutely no interest in fixing what was wrong. While the coffee drinks might be a good option here, the breakfast definitely is not.”

This was the CUTEST cafe ever! Latina owned, the food was amazing and I got to pick a photo to print into the coffee!

The place and the latte art is cute, but it’s a bit pricey, you will have to wait forever and they currently have a B on their Food serving inspection. I went earlier today and waited about 40-50 mins for two preheated pastries. When my partner asked for an update, literally said “can I get an update on …” one of the workers got upset and said “well I called your name twice.” It was three of us and none of us heard anything and they only had one pastry out and we still waited for the second one . I really wanted to like this place but to wait that long for preheated food, bad matcha lattes, and dealing with rude staff when you’re being polite is definitely not worth the hype.

I don’t normally give out low ratings especially to cafes. I try to give the benefit of a doubt since I used to be a barista and understand some of the stress but came in yesterday with my partner in the afternoon and the lady up front seemed irritated and was rude the whole time we were ordering. I understand having off days but this was definitely not that, I overheard her speaking with other customers the same exact way. I ordered a matcha latte with oat milk and it tasted terrible. I had asked for a bit more vanilla but that didn’t do anything. I absolutely love matcha have gone to countless cafes to try all different kinds of blends of matcha this one was just terrible and expensive. My partner ordered a vanilla latte and the lady who took our order said she had just cleaned the espresso machine and wasn’t going to use it at all. We were there at 4 pm so I’m not sure why she shut the espresso machine down already. Idk if this is policy but it was weird. I don’t know what she used for his vanilla latte but it just tasted super watered down. Super disappointing visiting I had wanted to try this place for a long time and was just completely letdown and unsatisfied the decor inside is beautiful but the quality of the drinks was just so terrible.

I stopped by Sunday morning with my family for some coffee and snacks. We got there around 11am and the parking lot was pretty empty. There was one person on his laptop, one couple ahead of us and our group. It looks like there was only one person working at first but I think a second came to help after. We were patient as it’s my understanding that they are still fairly new. We wanted to come support a local business instead of the bigger well known coffee chain.
I will say, it took a while to place our order but the cashier/barista was so incredibly kind. There’s lots of seating inside and outside as well. I also want to point out that it’s all very reasonably priced. My kids and I really enjoyed the pizza bagels and I thought my iced vanilla latte was perfect. Not too sweet. Made just right. My husband’s eggnog latte was definitely really sweet, maybe even overly sweet but the vanilla latte was perfect. I highly recommend that one.
It’s a really cute vibe inside. It feels homey with some cool decor. Lots to look at and a great playlist. It took about half an hour for our drinks and food order and we weren’t in a rush but I would definitely come here if you’re looking for a relaxed and laid back vibe.

2 Months Ago- was super excited place is soooooooo cute! I need a cute place to chill with friends. And I’m a big time coffee fan. I did a video on how cute this place was! Super yummy looking options. Perfect for East Los. Close to all my family and friends and my home. When it came time to order no one was at the counter. Had a hard time using the ordering scanning system. Asked for help. No one there. Then I grabbed the menu to read it. A woman walks from the back and publicly in a crowded place tells me off, scolding me for holding the menu. Then the people in the long line walk out. And my group says ok let’s order. In the mean time we did successfully order a sandwich online. So I got that. But time for coffee and sooooooo many snacks, let’s do this. Woman is angry. Other woman comes around apologizes for the one lady who is scolding folks, “scolding lady” saying u just have to scan. Scolding lady was mean to the white people group too. Idk them, but they were pretty nice and said they came from a protest and wanted to check it out, their whole group walked out. No one wants to. So basically the entire line maybe except 1 couple walks out. We finally did too. I didn’t want to be treated that way. The one woman at the counter who was previously there was nice and apologized for the other issues. But damage was done by the other woman. I hope they don’t have her working there anymore because my friends want to give it another chance today. Spent over an hour, no coffee. Very cute place. Idea is cute. Ambience if service is good would be perfect to meet up with a friend!
My organizer/artists friends are going today. I opted out, due to previous experience. They’re still asking me to go. I may change this review today if they had a good experience. Or if I meet up and it’s all good.
