Street style tacos, breakfast tacos, fresh chips, queso, guacamole, and salsas made fresh everyday are what we are all about! Our name Rusty Taco comes from our founder, Rusty Fenton who was passionate about food and had a dream to open a neighborhood taco stand. That dream came true when our first restaurant opened in in in 2010 in Dallas, TX. Stop by and grab a seat, some tacos, and kick back with one of our not so famous Rusty Margarita’s, because as Rusty always said, “Tacos Are The Most Important Meal of the Day®!

First visit and very impressed. Had the Rusty Combo with the smashed cheeseburger taco on flour tortilla and crispy shrimp taco on corn tortilla. Chips and queso for my side. Service was friendly and place is clean. Food was great. I didn’t think a cheeseburger taco would be good but it was excellent. They really load up the tacos so 2 is more than enough for 1 person. Queso is really tasty as well.

Our office decided to try out Rusty Taco for lunch this afternoon. Needless to say, we were not disappointed! The staff was incredibly friendly and the restaurant was very clean. Upon walking into the restaurant, we were greeted by warm smiles and a unique, beautiful atmosphere. My coworkers and I ordered the chorizo & black bean bowl, the shrimp bowl, and the birria tacos. We got our food quickly and took it back to our office to enjoy. Everything was so delicious! We will definitely be back! Hopefully after work too, for a margarita!

We recently visited Rusty Taco on State Street in Rockford, Illinois, and our first impression was quite positive. The place was well-organized and clean, setting a nice tone for the visit. We ordered the plant based chorizo and black bean tacos, but unfortunately, they were out of the plant based chorizo. They substituted them with cauliflower and a regular black bean taco instead. Also gave us a side of cheese and chips on the house for the inconvenience (the cheese was delicious). I rated the cauliflower tacos a 3/5. My partner ordered the steak fajita and Texican tacos. He rated those 3 out of 5 as well. I don’t recommend the rice, it was bland with no flavor. I will give compliments on their salsas because those were very good. Even the super spicy one. The restaurant does offer alcoholic beverages, which is a nice touch.

The service was good, exactly what you’d expect for a pleasant experience. The atmosphere was also nice. I especially liked that they kept their ketchup and salsas in a small fridge you could grab from.
I do want to add that the menu print is tiny! I have 20/19 vision and still found myself squinting to read the descriptions, so just a heads up

Overall, our experience was a bit mixed. We felt that the pricing was on the higher side for the sides. We received just seven tater tots for $4, and a small 4-ounce serving of rice for the same price. Our total came to $42ish with 5 tacos (3 vegetarian, which are cheaper), 2 beers, side of rice and side of tators.

Given our taco ratings and pricing factors, we’re on the fence about returning. With so many Mexican restaurant options and over 10 food trucks along State Street, including one that’s absolutely delicious, Rusty Taco really needs to stand out. I’m not sure they will with just average tacos, but I do hope they can make it.

While the food was just decent, we just weren’t impressed, the value for the cost left …a bit to be desired as well. We might consider other options next time. Overall, it was an okay experience, but there are definitely some areas for improvement!

My wife and I dined in tonight and the food was outstanding. I had the corny pig and the bacon jam tacos with tots and my wife had fried shrimp and green street tacos with black beans.

Both of our meals were excellent. The restaurant is brightly decorated, very clean, and has friendly staff. The bacon jam was to die for, I never thought I would rave about corn but the corn was fresh and crisp and wonderful. Everything was obviously made from fresh to order and was done very well.

My wife, who is 37 weeks pregnant, said I am to bring her this food in the hospital after she gives birth she enjoyed it so much.

Highly recommend. No complaints.

Very good and cheap meal. I recommend the chicken quesadillas and the chips and queso. I come here for that every time.

Spent $21 for 6 street tacos and another taco and chips and salsa for two people. The chips are good, salsa ok- not very much flavor. The street tacos on the other hand were not even edible. Worst taco I’ve ever had. There were maybe 2 cilantro leafs and 2 diced pieces of onion and a good amount of inedible beef. The meat was terrible, old, couldn’t even chew it, and zero good flavor. Ended up eating the shells for dinner. Really wanted to like the place as I love tacos and they seem to have a good variety of bowls and things too. The employee was very nice and friendly. But sorry, I won’t be back. Hopefully I don’t get sick from the few bites of meat I managed to swallow.

Great food but everything seems like it has spice to it which I didn’t like. Like the beans and the fajita chicken. The salsa for the chips are a little bland. The guacamole was amazing. Great food just too much spice for me. The wait for the food was a little extreme.

This new restaurant opened today, August 18… I ordered the bacon breakfast tacos, and tried some mild salsa and some medium salsa on the side.. the portion sizes were decent and tasty…good but not great… For a fast food restaurant I rate it 4 stars.. the service was prompt and friendly. The decor is typical fast food with a much smaller seating capacity than a McDonald’s or a Taco Bell…I do plan to return some time and try other tacos on the menu.

The kid working the register was super friendly. The food was pretty good. I signed up for rewards and was supposed to get a free taco but they never sent it to me… kind of lame

First time trying Rusty tacos and what an awesome place! I got the 12.99 dinner combo TO GO with a smashed cheeseburger taco and a crispy fish taco, chips and guacamole as my side and a drink. The tacos were a good sized portion and tasted delicious. The side of guacamole was full to the lid.. I mean FULL. Great taste as well. I also tried a side of street corn fritters and yummy!! I loved the sauce that came with them. The woman at the counter greeted me wtih a smile and the cooks were both working hard as the place was full when I got there to pick up my order. 10/10 will be back to try again. Yum!
