I went to The Regalia Restaurant because they advertised having authentic Hong Kong-style chicken hot pot (香港雞煲) — something I’ve been craving for years.
I’ve been in Canada for 12 years, and while about 98% of Hong Kong flavors can be found here, the true Hong Kong chicken hot pot has always been missing. Naturally, I had to give this place a try.
The restaurant environment is quite nice, and based on what I read online, it’s fairly new and run by people with real Hong Kong roots. Unfortunately, the chicken hot pot didn’t quite deliver. It looked right, but the taste was off. Instead of the complex, layered flavors you get from a chicken hot pot with a house-made sauce, this version was dominated by a strong shacha (沙茶) sauce flavor. It wasn’t bad — the dish was fine to eat — but it didn’t feel carefully crafted or close to the authentic Hong Kong taste I’ve been searching for.
On the other hand, their deep-fried salt & pepper grouper was excellent! It tasted truly authentic and very satisfying, especially since fresh ocean fish is hard to find in my hometown — Toronto. At $38.75 for one order, the portion was generous and felt like great value.
Given the price, if I had to choose between the grouper and the stir-fried clams, the grouper definitely feels like the much better deal.

Food was very inconsistent in terms of quality. We ordered a hot pot and the quality of the meat was really bad, the beef felt radioactive and the lamb was just frozen. On the bright side, the oysters were good, juicy and fresh.

Waited 40 minute for fish to swim out of the ocean, came in a cold dish and another 20 for chicken soup. Freshly caught from the deep fryer. Store is not busy with 4 tables. Kappa

The food is amazing! I always eat here and it has become my favorite spots. I recommend the chicken pot with abalones as it has the right amount of salty and savory. The Regalia chicken pot is more on the saltier side. I also sometimes ask them to add more broth if I want it less salty. The chicken wings are very good! I like both of the flavors. I could not take a photo of all the chicken wings as they were gone in minutes!

The chicken pot was so good! The chicken was super tender, and the broth was packed with flavor. The fried squid was So crispy and yummy, just perfect for sharing. And the egg yolk fried chicken was juicy and had this rich taste from the egg yolk coating. Definitely recommend all of them!

I went there for lunch and ordered the chicken rice noodle. Basically, the soup and noodle is flavorless. The dates on top are hard and just put on top of the noodles without being cooked. The waitress was very busy and did not serve us any tea or water. My husband and I were so disappointed to start our day like this. The worse is we both had diarrhoea afterwards.

A new restaurant has come to Parker Place. All of the dishes ordered were excellent! Would come here again! The portions are pretty big so bring more people. There’s also two vip rooms that can be used for special occasions.

We visited The Regalia Restaurant recently and were quite disappointed with both the food and service. The dishes were overly salty, which affected the overall taste. But what really stood out was the poor service — we had to call the staff at least twice every time we needed assistance.
It made us wonder if the service quality was related to the fact that we don’t speak Cantonese. It felt like other tables received more attentive service. Overall, not a pleasant dining experience, and we’re hesitant to return.
