The food was a bit disappointing. I didn’t expect it to match what I had in Japan, but it really fell short. Ordered a few apps: Dashi simmered pumpkin, Dashimaki, and Agedashi Nasu. All fell flat. The Kakiage Soba had a good flavor to it, but the Kamo Negi Soba was a big miss all around, especially the duck part was not tender and there was only 3 thin, tiny slices. I really wanted to like this place, but I think I ordered enough dishes to justify my rating.
The menu is loaded with vegetarian soba bowls that could convert even the most committed carnivore. And if you’re not in a noodle mood, no problem — the sashimi is ultra-fresh, and the tempura is so perfectly crisp it practically crackles in greeting. Add a solid lineup of sakes and suddenly your “quick dinner” becomes a whole vibe. I saw many guests re-ordering new items a few times.
The atmosphere is pure Venice: casual, bright, and breezy, like everyone agreed to be relaxed but still look effortlessly cool. Most seats are high stools, only a couple of regular tables available.
Pro tip: Come hungry, bring patience for parking, and absolutely order the sake — it’s the upgrade your soba didn’t know it needed
I used to live in Japan, Tokyo and I was sure I knew about soba BUT I was wrong! This restaurant exceeded my expectations. It’s perfect place if you are picky for Japanese food.
I had chill dipping soba with shiso and my husband had spicy hot soba. We also tried karaage and seasoned edamame. All were excellent I will definitely come back to try different type of soba or udong.
The appetizers – Dashi Simmered Pumpkin and Chicken Kaarage – were excellent as well. Plus very friendly and polite staff. Will come back!
We visited for a weekday lunch. With only one chef on duty, the service was understandably a bit slow, but still attentive.
We ordered the special appetizer plate, along with two types of zaru soba — one with shiso sauce and the other with tororo. While the appetizer plate felt slightly overpriced given the portion size, I appreciated the care put into each item. That said, the grilled rice ball and salmon could’ve been warmer — possibly a result of limited staffing.
The soba itself was excellent, with a pleasantly firm and tangy texture. The shiso sauce, however, leaned a bit too salty and thick for my taste, whereas the tororo sauce was well-balanced in both flavor and texture. After finishing the noodles, we asked for sobayu (hot water mixed with buckwheat flour), and once again, the shiso dipping sauce remained too salty to enjoy even when diluted — but the tororo sauce paired beautifully with it, enhanced by the delicate sweetness of fresh wasabi.
It was a great chance as the food was great. Everything was excellent to include our communication with other patrons
The food was awesome and we plan to go there again before we leave LA
