DO NOT LET THE 4.7 STARS FOOL YOU. Whoever took over this restaurant has seriously let it go. Terribly slow service. They do not offer chips and salsa like every other Mexican restaurant. I ordered cheese dip and it was awful. It might as well have been cold watered down milk. We waited over 45 minutes for 2 simple dishes. Taco salad and lunch fajitas. There was nobody else in the restaurant. We asked for salsa and the waitress brought out this nasty looking taco sauce. Do yourself a favor and go anywhere else in Cartersville for mexican food. This place is not it.

I had seen a poster advertising them. They actually were a different business (a Mexican restaurant), got bought (the fella helping out was very friendly (felt like I was visiting a buddy)), changed the name and added to the menu. It was quite warm inside (and was during the summer soo….). The decoration and lighting is your run of the meal Mexican restaurant. The addition was Indian food and Indo-Chinese. The Indo-Chinese basically added different variations of fried rice. The Indian food on the other hand is a good variety. Now a strength and weakness is that they have different cooks for the different types of food. One cook does the Mexican food and a different one does the Indian. Indian food is known for being spicy and I’ve went to other Indian restaurants and their level of spicy of 10 out of 1-10 can still be pretty tame. Here I didn’t feel like pushing the limit (I can take a lot of spice) and decided to have my dish at medium. The spice level was perfect!!! It had kick to it, but not overwhelming. This was true medium spicy. I would suspect the hot…will burn you just as you would expect.

I’ve had Indian cuisine many times from different places. Usually as a baseline in any cuisine, I choose 1 dish to have at each and see how they compare. After having that dish, I will then branch out to others. The dish I have chosen is chicken tikka masala. The presentation was nice! The flavor was so much better though. I wanted to eat the plate. The rice is very fluffy/light/airy. The chicken…tender. The sauce though…that’s the real money maker. Full of flavor and smooth! The naan (plain butter) was nothing too special and is extra. That would be one complaint that I’ve seen with several is that no naan comes with the meal (extra cost and must be ordered) and it’s really an essential part.

This is a new ownership/restaurant is definitely worth the stop and I would recommend giving it a try. I had an issue with my drink at the time where it wasn’t cold and was no fizz (they learned later that they needed to put ice in with the carbonation) and they don’t have tea. Also, they do not offer a military discount.

I don’t know what to say. My wife and I went in for what we expected to be good Mexican food. The place was a ghost town , the service was slow but not painfully slow, the burrito (only one burrito option) is apparently served with french fries (why???) , and both mine and my wife’s meals packed any sort of flavor or seasoning. It was edible, but…we couldn’t detect a gram of salt or pepper, let alone cumin or adobo or cayenne. Didn’t detect any onions or peppers or anything else to add flavor. The beans and tortillas tasted like they came straight out of their respective can or pack.

I hate being so critical that it comes off mean, but we were honestly so disappointed. The workers were nice and seemed genuinely disappointed that we didn’t like the food, which makes it even harder to write this. Taco Tikal at the time of our visit was rated 4.7/5 Stars, but I’ve got to ask: is this the food that earned 4.7 stars? Because this was ***not*** the kind of dinner that earns nearly that high of marks. Trying to stay optimistic, I write this hoping that maybe future patrons’ meals will improve as a result of criticism. Please.

The owner patiently explained the Indian dishes to us since we had never had Indian food before. There was no room for improvement at Taco Tikal! We will be back and highly recommend!

This was such a fun dining experience! I had the loroco and queso pupusa for a little appetizer. We shared the Dal Tudka and Butter Paneer Masala, garlic naan and jasmine rice. The masala was rich and smooth. The Dal had a smoky flavor with heat infused from the chili: together they were a perfect balance of sweet and spicy. Jennifer was a lovely server as well! Thank you so much and we’ll be back for more!

Amazing food! This is a new business and you can tell the owner really cares about his customers eating well. The chicken biryani and mango chicken are superb. The naan is fluffy and crispy! Please do give this new restaurant a try.
They are serving Mexican favorites as well – I got to drink a horchata with my biryani, which is honestly such a treat as those are two of my favorite things in the world. This restaurant is an instant favorite.

i stumbled in here on chance because i needed a restroom, and im so happy i did. They are family ran, and so kind and welcoming. I asked what i should try and ended up getting the taco burrea and IT WAS SO GOOD and filling and super affordable. I will absolutely be back for the food, the energy, and the owners smiles!

We visited this place on 1/17 around 3-3:30. Not from the area so I trusted the google reviews. I’ve learned google reviews can be very misleading. A lot of reviews are talking about Indian food? Maybe they’ve reviewed the wrong place but I can assure you I will never trust google reviews as confidently going forward.
Pulling up I pushed away my feeling that this was a mistake. The strip it’s on looks dumpy and the restaurant felt the same. The place was almost empty. The table we were sat at was unstable and had a bad rock to it. I had to put napkins under the table to stabilize it. I proceeded on, confident that the reviews were right, even though I knew in the pit of my stomach that this was a mistake. Now, every Mexican restaurant I’ve been to from NC to TX gives you free chips and salsa and refills as much as you want. She brings a basket with barely any chips for 5 people. The salsa was pretty good but when we asked for more chips she said it would cost extra. WTH? We didn’t even get adequate chips in the first place.
I thought ACP was a well known Mexican dish throughout the country but I had to explain what I wanted to the waitress? Which she said they could do but they brought it out for my kids with tomatoes and cilantro in it. ACP is just rice and chicken with cheese dip all over it. Kids didn’t like it. Daughter didn’t like her taco and said rice tasted slightly burnt, which it did. I got the quesadilla birria which was really good. Was very happy with the way that tasted. But the overall experience at this restaurant was not good. I know kids can be finicky but I tasted the ACP and rice they had and it wasn’t great and had no flavor.
And the service was bad. The waitress would go missing for FOREVER. It felt so alone in that place. We could have easily just left after eating and not pay and they wouldn’t have known for a while. And when I asked for a to go box, it took her 10 minutes. I finally just got up and went to the register and she came out with one and said she it took her a while to find them. I would say the only thing good about the place was the quesadilla birria. I’m so sick of getting mislead by google reviews. I feel like most of the reviews are from a different restaurant but either they are older or maybe when the place had a different owner. I know everyone has a different experience and maybe at a busier hour, the service would be better. But I have to review on what I experienced when I went. I would say proceed cautiously to this restaurant.
