Reviews
I was a raving fan of his prior Delray restaurant up on 2nd, and am now a raving fan for his new spot. I look forward to incorporating my future South Florida visits with a fine vegan meal at True Vegan.
One of the coolest surprises is the layout: inside, there’s seating with a full open view of the chefs preparing dishes (which my kids loved), and behind a discreet door in the back lies a beautiful hidden garden courtyard. It creates a relaxed, intimate atmosphere that feels miles away from the buzz of the avenue.
I visited with my wife and two kids, and the experience was fantastic from start to finish. We started with the vegan fried chicken bites and mac and cheese, and these appetizers were devoured in minutes, not even exaggerating. Perfectly seasoned, crispy, and packed with flavor. It set the tone for the rest of the meal.
For entrées, we ordered:
• Two Mushroom Burgers
• 2 Vegan Bolognese
• Side of Fries
The Mushroom Burger was the standout for me. The presentation alone is impressive! it comes with a fresh salad and a flavorful rice that complements the dish perfectly. The pretzel bun was a great touch, but what really sold me was the seasoning. So many restaurants rely on heavy salt to compensate for flavor, but not here. The burger was balanced, rich, and genuinely delicious.
The Vegan Bolognese was another hit. Instead of a meat substitute, they use an assortment of mushrooms cooked down to create a deep, savory, almost “meaty” flavor. Topped with vegan cheese, it was hearty and comforting. I’d absolutely order again.
The fries were exactly how I love them: fresh out of the fryer, extra crispy, and served with a great ketchup/mayo-style dipping sauce.
We finished with two desserts: the cheesecake and the Cookie Monster, both served with vanilla ice cream. Decadent, creamy, and the perfect sweet ending, even better that they’re fully vegan.
Service was consistently warm, friendly, and fast. The staff checked in often, offered great suggestions, and really added to the experience. We also learned they’re planning to expand the menu soon, which gives us even more reason to return.
Overall: True Vegan is a must-visit, whether you’re vegan or not. Great food, great atmosphere, and great people. We’ll definitely be back.
The highlights:
Vegan Fried Chicken: Loved it. Crispy on the outside, tender inside, and super flavorful without being heavy. One of the standout items for sure.
Mushroom Burger: Really impressed — hearty, savory, and surprisingly “meaty” for a plant-based patty. A former 2x award winner. I’d easily order this again.
Fries: Simple, hot, perfectly salted. Exactly what you want. Loved the dipping sauce.
Mac n’ Cheese: Creamy, comforting, and one of the better vegan macs I’ve had. Great texture and flavor.
What I didn’t love:
Tuna Melt: This one fell flat for me. The flavor was pretty bland and it really needed more cheese to tie everything together. Would love to see it amped up a bit.
Overall, True Vegan is serving up serious plant-based comfort food, and it’s only going to get better. Can’t wait to see what culinary creations Chief Rahein Jones has in store next!
Jackfruit & cauliflower, lemon, lime, parsley, cilantro and FALAFEL PASTA SALAD …$21
Quinoa pasta, spring mix, fresh & sun dried tomatoes, house mayo, blend of herbs, chopped falafel patty…..the food was very delicious. I’m not vegan, just cleaning up how I eat and this place surpassed my expectations. If you’re ever in the Delray Beach area, most definitely stop by and have a bite. You won’t be disappointed. Chef Rahein is behind all the flavor. 10/10!
