YoChef’s Café – A Cozy Culinary Gem in Grand Rapids
Reviews
This was an awesome find. The food was absolutely fantastic! I had the Philly cheesesteak which was probably the best one I’ve had in a long, long time. It came with a nice big bowl of au jus so I can dunk my sandwich in there really well, as it should be. The wait staff was great and they kept my coffee cup full!
My lovely bride had the chicken avocado wrap, and she commented repeatedly about how good it was and that we have to come back.
I’m always happy to post something like this to help out a restaurant that’s doing a great job- and they are! As much as I’d like to keep this gem to myself it’s too good not to share.
– A Lotta Bacon, Bacon Burger – $13.50: One of the best burgers in Grand Rapids! I ordered it medium without pickle and with American cheese (they confirmed “Kraft singles”). The cheese was not a “Kraft singles” cheese, but I don’t care. This cheese was better. The half-pound burger patty was super juicy, huge, and seasoned perfectly. The bacon was just the right amount for perfect flavor. The toppings were fresh.
They have a great selection of other burgers. I’d love to try the Death Burger sometime.
– Fries (came with the burger or $2.50 as a side): Medium to larger cut. Mine were a bit cold, but my son’s fries were very hot. Other than that, they were cooked through, soft, and with the right amount of salt.
– White [Chocolate] Mocha 12oz – $4.50: The coffee was Ethiopian blend. It was creamy and very delicious. Significantly better than most coffee chains and worth the price for sure. My wife got oat milk.
– Service: We had a trainee waitress, but she was SUPER nice and did great.
– Atmosphere: Three booths and several tables with chairs. The tables showed age, but were still clean and professional. The restaurant was cheerful and bright, organized and clean.
– Conclusion: I would HIGHLY recommend their burger.
Visited on a Saturday at 1pm.
Service was friendly, but not highly competent. With only a couple others in there, we were never checked up on while eating. My wife got someone’s attention for a coffee refill and then we ask for mine to be refilled at the same time.
The dining room has some nice decorations like the cafe sign shown. Overall, however, it’s pretty plain with a drop ceiling, fluorescent lights, and old floor tiles. If you like Taylor Swift and lots of ads, you’ll like the background music.
