OX 9 Lanzhou Handpulled Noodles is the very first restaurant to serve authentic Lanzhou Handpulled Noodles in Northern California. The founder was trained in Lanzhou by the fifth descendant of MA, the creator of hand-pulled noodles. Well-versed in the traditional recipe and the soup-making process we aim to provide all customers with a bowl of warm, authentic Lanzhou Noodles. By doing so, we make the centuries-old craft and delicacy available to everyone who loves authentic Chinese flavors. At OX 9, we strictly follow the Lanzhou traditional production processes, from ingredient selection to the pulling craft and soup making. We got featured on the cover page of Micheline Magazine in October 2018. Serving Bay Area with 6 locations.

Had a fantastic lunch here! The spicy ground beef with dry noodles was packed with flavor, but fair warning the heat might not be for everyone. We also tried the spicy braised beef noodle soup, which was super comforting and full of tender beef. The beef and green onion bao were soft and tasty. Definitely worth a visit if you love bold flavors!

we’ve heard this place has very good Chinese food, so we went for a late lunch. it’s a noodle , so the menu is mostly noodles: thick, thin, long, short. a few tables were available. very good service. the food arrived soon. I had the beef ribs with thick long noodles, the thickest and longest noodles I’ve ever had. if the noodles are too long, they’ll give you a pair of scissors ✂️. it’s a very full meal. we also had an order of the popcorn chicken, which goes well with the noodles. lots of side dishes. everyone finished everything. and yes, we’ll go again.

Really tasty broth, chewy noodles, and a good cut of beef in each bowl. The only thing missing from the menu is a beer to compliment a spicy broth but sodas are available. We walked in on a Sunday afternoon and had no wait. No frills, good food.

This is a chain that opened in Mountain View sometime this year. It was my first time stopping by.

Everything is self service — you order from the table QR code and they deliver it to your table.

The food took a bit longer than expected.

I got the big wide chili oil noodles as there weren’t many vegetarian options.

The flavors were just as expected — loved the chili oil and loved the big wide noodles, chewy and flavorful, all at the same time.

While I enjoyed the food a lot, the service was a bit different than expected. Walking inside felt like a full service place, but it was mostly no contact. Just different from expectations. Great place to just grab and go for quick eats.

Ox 9 opened semi-recently in DTMV and is a chain that serves primarily hand-pulled noodles.

Noodles consistently arrive chewy and the broth is not too salty. I like the hint of spice added from the chili oil. My favorite item is the classic Lanzhou beef noodle soup with small/large flat noodles.

Ordering is done through the QR code at the table. Service is quick and efficient. Interior is clean, modern, and spacious.

Ox 9 Lanzhou Handpulled Noodles

As someone who grew up eating noodle soup daily, I came here with genuine excitement and high expectations. This restaurant is well known for its noodles, but what I experienced was far from memorable.

The broth was flat and ordinary, offering little depth. It lacked the care, ingredients, and time that make a noodle soup memorable—just salty water with a faint hint of beef. The noodles themselves were plain and overly soft, missing the chew and elasticity that define great noodles.

The beef, while tender, came in small bite-sized pieces with no real flavor impact. Vegetables were minimal, simply boiled in the soup, adding nothing to the taste or overall balance.

Though the bowl looked generous, it left us unsatisfied and unfulfilled. Instead of comfort and satisfaction, the lingering aftertaste was an unpleasant saltiness that left our throats dry and our stomachs unsettled.

At the end of the day, the real question is: would I come back or eat this daily? The answer is no. What should have been a comforting, flavorful experience was instead a disappointing and forgettable one.

While wandering down Castro Street, we were drawn to Ox 9 by its hand-pulled noodles. The service was decent, with a user-friendly QR code ordering system that let us customize our dishes. My sister and I ordered braised beef stew noodle soup with different noodle cuts, perfectly chewy, just as I like it. The braised beef was incredibly tender, the broth was packed with flavor with customizable spice levels, and the vegetables were freshly cooked, adding a nice crunch. My niece loved her vegetarian chili oil dry noodle, finishing the entire bowl, a testament to how much she enjoyed it! For appetizers, the fried calamari was delightfully crispy, served with a tasty sweet chili dipping sauce, and the fried taro balls were a standout, crispy outside with soft, flavorful taro inside. The noodle soup portions were massive, so we needed to-go containers. The restaurant has simple decor, adequate space, and offers fast service at reasonable prices. Overall, a highly satisfying meal, perfect for a quick, flavorful stop!

Absolutely scrumptious! This is going to be one of my go-to spots if I’m craving handpulled noodles. My family and I went together and I got the ground pork dry noodles, mom got beef lanzhou noodle soup, and dad got malatang noodle soup. They were all 10/10. Pricing was also very reasonable. Service was also fast. The pig ear in chili oil appetizer is also a MUST-TRY. Will definitely be back.

OX9 has always been our go-to spot for hand-pulled noodles. In the past, we had to drive all the way to Cupertino to enjoy it, but now with their new location in Mountain View, it’s an exciting addition that we couldn’t wait to try!

We ordered a few signature dishes, and each one left a lasting impression.

The Beef Oil-Splashed Noodles featured the same delightfully chewy texture we’ve come to love. The sauce was rich, layered, and flavorful, making every bite an absolute pleasure and highlighting the essence of hand-pulled noodles.

The Braised Beef Noodle Soup came with a different type of noodle, offering a refreshing twist. The beef was tender and well-seasoned, while the broth was flavorful without being overly greasy. The generous portion of vegetables added freshness and balance, making it a truly satisfying dish.

The Red Chili Wontons remain second on my list of favorite wontons. What makes them exceptional is the sauce—not just simple chili oil, but a carefully crafted mixture enhanced by aromatic spices. The flavor is bold, complex, and absolutely delicious.

The seemingly humble Smashed Cucumbers were another pleasant surprise. Crisp and refreshing, with finely cut slices and perfectly balanced seasoning, this side dish added a light and satisfying touch to the meal.

The restaurant’s interior is clean and well-maintained, and the staff is attentive and welcoming. Without a doubt, OX9’s Mountain View branch is set to become one of my favorite spots in downtown Mountain View!

Nice addition of this popular hand-pulled noodle chain to the downtown Castro area. Solid amount of seating and tables with QR ordering at table.

Besides the hand-pulled noodles (either soup or dry based), there are also a few solid appetizers like the marinated cucumbers, sliced beef shank and spicy wontons.

Soup and noodle portions are generous, easily able to feed a very hungry person or two less hungry patrons.

Service is brisk but efficient and order prep is lightning fast.

I loved the cleaner Lanzhou broth and the hand pulled noodles are great (as is watching the window to the kitchen and the staff pulling the noodles).

Credit cards are accepted and seating is all indoor.
