I moved to Long Island from Brooklyn 5 years ago and its not many west Indian restaurants. Ive tried a few and they are good but for the past year Coalhouse has been my families go to. The food taste like your grandmother’s cooking. Authentic, flavorful, and made with love. Ive used them for catering services for my high school reunion summer 2025 and everyone is still talking about the food. The desserts are amazing, from the homemade ice cream, banana pudding, & my husband loves the rum cake. I’ve tried almost everything on the menu & I’m never disappointed. Everytime I arrive the customer service was always welcoming & kind. They have a customer for life!

I don’t really write much reviews, but Coalhouse express is one of a kind. Once known as Coalhouse grill, I been a long time customer before the name change. Being that it is a family owned restaurant The customer service, especially from Natalie is “bend over backwards” to make the customer happy and the food is mouth watering delicious. They will forever have my business.

Well can’t comment on the food as I didn’t get any. I walked in around 7.30 pm today 10/9, said hello to the chap behind the counter; he didn’t reply. I then chose a medium mango jerk chicken meal and gave him $50.
He took it , looked in his cash register and said ‘ no change. He then flicked the note on the counter in front of me and informed me that ‘ I can go to 7-11 and change it’ all the while with an attitude.
Well whatever
I just feel bad for whoever it is that invested in the restaurant. Yes it’s getting people in the door now. The staff should try and remember the time when the place was always empty. Like less than 2 months back.
2 stars for the setup. It actually looks good enough for a date night but for the attitude.

The chicken was cooked to perfection and so moist. We had the barbecue chicken, curry, chicken, pineapple chicken dinners. Did not disappoint. The rice and peas with paired chicken was also very good.
