Reviews
Some people have stated that there is a long time to wait for a meal. I would rather have a properly and lovely cooked meal as opposed to something that feels rushed.
The food was presented in a great way and there is nothing I can think of that could have been improved.
The view is also one of the best parts about Coco’s. It is a truly beautiful view.
The owner is lovely and friendly.
I recommend the garlic butter shrimp with mash potatoes.
Service was pretty naive.
It took 90mins to receive our orders – which is long but not crazy in the Caribbean.
Waiter hides once orders are placed – don’t circle back for more drinks or to check on food – perhaps due to being understaffed.
Bill includes 16% tax and 10% service charge – waiter tells me this doesn’t go to service staff but goes to the kitchen…
Summary
Some of the better food in Bequia but not cheap.
If you are vegan just call ahead and let them know and when you get there too, the menu doesn’t show anything vegan but they are happy to accommodate!
If you do eat fish this is the place to go as they serve local fish local style!
We waited 40 minutes for our food, this is a good time, as they cook everything from scratch. Just get a drink and enjoy the nice vibe!
Also I totally disagree with someone’s comment about this restaurant being in a sketchy area, I am a foreign woman and I live in this area and have never had an issue. It’s just a small 5 minute walk from town, but taxis can easily reach.
Just we were shocked, that opening time is 5.30 pm, byt chef was not ready and we waited till 06.30 just to order.
Good lobster, mahi- mahi and steak were not well-prepared.
Food was pretty good, hot sauce very mild.
Service was extremely SLOW. Wait for menus, wait for drinks, wait for appetizer, wait for main…even though we were the only table getting food.
Not sure if we will bother returning.
It is one of the few “local” restaurants on Bequia, not connected to a hotel so I really wanted to be positive about it, however, after this many visits with the same experience, I just need to call it as it is. So here is my review of Coco’s Place.
The location
The restaurant is located within walking distance of Port Elizabeth so it easy to get to from many of the hotels on that side of the island.
The food
It’s hit and miss. The lobster is really good but I have not been impressed overall.
The ambience
It overlooks the sea so it has that going for it, but not a lot else.
The price
A bit pricey! Almost as pricey as London but cheap for Bequia.
The service
This is where it really falls down.
The average waiting time from placing an order to receiving your meal is almost an hour.
This has happened to us on 4 occasion so even if you could forgive everything else, you end up not enjoying your night out.
My conclusion.
For now, give this place a miss.
