Nestled in Rostraver, PA, Salvatore’s Pizza and Pasta is the kind of place you hope stays a secret just long enough for you to savor its greatness without a crowd—but honestly, there should be a line out the door for pizza this good.
The owner’s Brooklyn roots shine in every slice. Salvatore’s thin-crust pizza hits all the right notes of authentic New York style: a sauce that’s perfectly tangy and vibrant, just the right kiss of grease to keep things indulgent, and a crust that’s both airy and crisp. The bottom has the ideal amount of char, giving it a subtle smokiness that complements the flavors beautifully. There’s very little flop, so you can fold your slice Brooklyn-style with ease, and each bite is a balance of chewy, crunchy, and utterly satisfying.
The unassuming location outside of Pittsburgh makes Salvatore’s a true hidden gem, but make no mistake—this is destination-worthy pizza. Whether you’re a local or a traveler, one visit will have you coming back again and again.
Authenticity, flavor, and craftsmanship—Salvatore’s has it all. Do yourself a favor and experience it before everyone else discovers the magic. Can’t wait to try their Brooklyn Sicilian next!
Yesterday, I was craving a pizza and, on a whim, decided to do a quick search to see if any other local pizza shop had good reviews that I could try. I was very surprised to see a place that was also only 12 minutes from my house (other direction) that had these off the chart reviews. On top of that, it was supposedly “New York” style. Long ago, 1992-1994, I was stationed on Staten Island so had 2 years of enjoying plenty of outstanding, truly New York pizza. It’s been over 30 years, and I may not have been able to adequately describe it because it had been so long ago. But, if someone asked, I’d have likely said, “I would just know it when I tasted it.”
I ordered a Sicilian, half pepperoni/mushroom, half sausage/onion. The made fresh daily dough was perfectly on point. Great flavor. The exactly right mouth feel. Chewy, but not too much. Made fresh daily sauce is also delicious and slightly thicker than most pizza sauces. Plenty of cheese but not too much. Toppings were all delicious and complemented rather than overwhelmed the pie. The short description is that this is genuinely authentic New York pizza. I knew it as soon as I tasted it. Best pizza I’ve had in 30 years, and I travel for my job so have tasted my share of pizza from around the country. This place can compete with anyone. To be fair, so far, I can only vouch for the Sicilian, but I’ll be trying the round, thin style very soon.
Final note: The service was just as good as others have described. Fast and oh so friendly. Authentically so. Just a great experience all the way around.
I started with the Sicilian pizza, which is easily one of the best I’ve ever had. On my next visit, I tried the pasta and was blown away by the generous portions. The meatballs are huge, juicy, and full of flavor. I can’t wait to come back to try more of their pizza, pasta, and especially a calzone!
