Reviews
The craft cocktails were well made and balanced (frankly after all the wine tastings they were a welcome change!)
The tuna crudo and Hokkaido scallops were perfection and presented beautifully. The burrata and beet salad was a symphony of flavor. Two of us got the duck breast which was fantastic but I thought the star was the vermillion rockfish – the marriage of Thai and broth and forbidden rice were delicious. For dessert we had a special treat from the kitchen so thanks chef – you couldn’t go wrong with any choice. The decor is California chic with a slight nod to mid century but not over the top. Large windows give a sense of indoor outdoor with lots of spaciousness.
What I loved most was it wasn’t French. It wasn’t Italian. It wasn’t Japanese. But it encompassed parts of everything with that American twist that made it great
Thank you Northblock for a delicious evening
We were celebrating my wife’s birthday, and the staff made the evening feel truly special. The service was warm, thoughtful, and perfectly timed — never rushed, but always attentive. The team made sure we felt cared for without being overbearing, and they even added a few personal touches that made the celebration even more meaningful.
The venue itself is absolutely stunning — elegant without being pretentious, with a relaxed, welcoming vibe. It’s the kind of place you want to come back to again and again. North Block delivered on every level, and we left already talking about when we can return. Five stars, without hesitation.
Me and my partner are visiting Napa, and we decided to go for the tasting menu, we wanted to see what the chef wanted to showcase and honestly very disappointing. Taste wise we were a little disappointed but to me that’s a minor issue given taste is preferential. Scallop and peaches dish was just way too peachy and sour you could barely taste the scallop.
The main thing was the portion sizes being waaaay too small. We’re from Thailand so we’re already not use to the usual huge American portions but we were shocked at how small each piece of food was. I expected the starters to be small, but the gnocchetti dish came and it was easy to count how many pieces we got, I’m sure you can see from the picture. Then the main dish came to my complete surprise we were served two (thumb size) pieces of steak… use the corn kernels on the side as a comparison…
We were left hungry after the main dish arrived that we had to ask the server for an a la carte item which he recommended a tagliatelle bolognese. Maybe my perspective is wrong but I don’t think anyone should leave a tasting menu feeling hungry. We regretted not going for the a la carte menu from the start, maybe we would have got our moneys worth. We considered going for a second meal in town right after but we were too tired. Not an experience I would recommend to anybody after spending 275 usd (all-in).
I will note though the server was really great and very attentive and made the evening slightly better but honestly the food just brought the whole down experience.
I ordered one tasting menu, Bolognese pasta, dozen oysters, and a beet tartar.
The entire tasting menu is just cooked horribly, course after course. The halibut is overcooked. Courses have no connection whatsoever between one another. Ravioli is so bad I couldn’t even finish. If I wasn’t really hungry I would return everything and not eat it. The only thing that was somewhat good is the wood fired steak dish with a red wine reduction and another cream based sauce I believe in the tasting menu.
Everything ended up costing 270. Insane amount for the kind of food and service you get. Server never asked once how we were doing and I had to ask for someone every time.
