I stopped by the Tropical Cafe in Lake Bluff today while my wife was at a hospital visit in Lake Forest. My 2-year-old daughter was with me and was begging for a smoothie, so I searched for the closest place and this location popped up.
When I walked in, there was an older gentleman behind the counter. I said hello when I came in and got absolutely no response — not even eye contact. I stood at the register for about 5 minutes waiting while he finished doing whatever he was doing, and still no acknowledgement.
When he finally came to the counter he just said “OK.” No greeting, no “how can I help you,” nothing.
I placed my order and asked what ingredients were in the smoothie since it was for my 2-year-old daughter. He very rudely listed the main ingredients. When I heard there was sugar in it, I simply asked if there was any way to make the smoothie without sugar.
Instead of answering normally, he grunted and started aggressively typing on the screen, as if asking a simple question about what my child was drinking was some huge inconvenience.
At that point I didn’t even feel comfortable ordering anymore, so I told him never mind and that I didn’t want anything. His response? He looked at me and rudely said, “Fine, you go.”
As I was walking out, my daughter realized she wasn’t getting the smoothie she had been excited about and she started crying and wouldn’t stop. That alone made the whole experience even more frustrating.
I have honestly never been treated this poorly in a place of business. Basic customer service like greeting someone, answering a simple question about ingredients, or showing even the slightest bit of respect shouldn’t be that hard. If you hate your job that much, maybe you shouldn’t be working in customer service.
Needless to say, I walked out and took my business somewhere else. I definitely won’t be coming back.

I had a really pleasant experience at Tropical Smoothie Cafe! The staff was friendly, welcoming, and quick to take my order. My smoothie was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly blended, and the food was just as delicious. Everything tasted fresh and well-prepared.

I came into this establishment as a Dasher, picking up an order for a customer, and when I immediately walked in the employee that was working there, a male of Indian descent had a look of disgust on his face.
When I walked in there were two Caucasian individuals patronizing the store at the time I walked in, and he did not speak to me.
He did attempt to say something about the order in which i didn’t hear him..so I did attempt to pick up the order in the designated delivery pick up area at which the order was not there and at that point, I then sat down and proceeded to wait on the order to be completed.
As I waited the employee had a very nasty look on his face. He kept looking back at me, giving me like bad, frowning, facial expressions and the other two males continue to leave the store as I continue to wait.
the employee there looked back at me specifically and then also like gave me another look of disgust . so I asked him I said “I’m sorry what did you say?” Cause I thought he had said something at which he said nothing back to me. as I proceeded to wait on the order as I was waiting so I ended up sitting down, he finished the order and placed the order in the pick up area designated for delivery. He did not ask me what order I had. He did not hand the order to me because clearly I was there picking up an order he deliberately ignored me. I also want you to know that when the other two individuals in the store, had proceeded to leave the store he made it a point to thank them for being in the store and for coming told them to have a good day. as I picked up the order and proceeded to leave out the store he absolutely said nothing to me. He did not look my way he did not thank me for coming to the store or anything. I will never go back into the store again because of the way that I was treated and it was clearly because of the color of my skin and in 2026 You should be ashamed of yourself, sir.

It’s hard to find good customer service these days; Lake Bluff Tropical Smoothie sets the bar high! I always look forward to placing my smoothie order so so can pop in and see my new friends Ricky, Bob, & Co! They are incredibly fast and always greet me with a smile. Using the app allows me to get a free energy boost with my points every visit. Prior to the new ownership, this location was a hot mess. I’ve never seen a business make such 180 in such a short period of time. Thanks for saving this shop, guys!

I don’t know what’s going on at this Tropical Smoothie Cafe, but professionalism is clearly not a priority. As someone who picks up deliveries daily, I’ve never seen such a careless attitude. They flat-out ignore you — no greeting, no update, just standing there like you don’t exist.
Even regular customers walking in get the same cold shoulder. Nobody seems interested in helping or moving with any sense of urgency. You’ll waste your time just waiting while employees move at a snail’s pace or pretend to be busy.
It’s incredibly frustrating and completely avoidable. Whoever’s managing this place needs to take a long, hard look at how things are being run. Until then, skip it. You’re better off going literally anywhere else.

The manager or owner is the rudest man I’ve ever encountered. His employee is not any better. I was there at 8:45. They close at 9:00. His words: “What’s up?” My response: “Here to place an order.” His response: “No food. Smoothie if you pay upcharge.” Then he has his employee come over. She says: “What do you want?” My response: “What’d you say?” She says: “We’re closing.” Closing at 9:00 means you close at 9:00. It means you keep all services available until 9:00: food and smoothies. If you don’t want to do that, then you shouldn’t be in the food business. The little 18 year old employee was reminding me that we’re closing in X minutes. The customer is always right. Learn to respect customers.

I’m not sure what’s up with the older gentleman I believe his name is Bob.P according to the receipt, that works at this location but he’s extremely rude. His attitude and customer service capabilities are by far some of the worst I’ve ever experienced at this location. He looks at you with disgust as if you did something to him and I’m going to honest, it’s very unsettling. Take was the icing on the cake. While ordering food, he asked if I wanted sausage or something else that I could barely understand him say and right before I made a decision, he asked in a very hostile tone, “WHAT!??”. I don’t know what’s his deal is but I will never step foot at this location ever again. If I could give this location -1000 stars I would all because of the staff.
