For the first we ordered the mix Tawas, starters for the second we had the whole lamb as part of the Royal Buffet.
On both occasions the food was spot on. It’s authentic Pakistani food with a taste of home and flavours were spot great and portions generous and enough variety to satisfy mosts tastes.
The star of the show was by far the whole lamb which was tender, moist and not too heavily spiced.
The owner Amir was attentive, and came to our table with a chicken and lamb karahi we ordered and personally served us.
Kumdan was also very accommodating and ensured we were looked after.
Many modern Pakistani/Indian restaurants are far removed from their culinary roots but not Haveli, its focus on traditional has paid off and I look forward to revisiting again soon.
The quality here is outstanding everything felt so well maintained, clean, and thoughtfully designed. Whether you’re looking for a relaxing spot to hang out, or somewhere to enjoy a great experience, this place hits the mark.
On top of that, the service was efficient: I didn’t feel rushed, but things ran smoothly. The attention to detail really shows, and you can tell the team take real pride in what they do.
If you’re looking for a top-tier place with great vibes, excellent service, and a high standard of care, this is it. Highly recommend to anyone!
On arrival, all four of us arrived separately and each of us waited a long time to be acknowledged. Staff repeatedly walked past us and we often had to approach or greet the waiters ourselves to say that we had a table booked, which wasn’t a great first impression.
To start, we were only given one drinks menu between the four of us. While the menu being fully non-alcoholic wasn’t a problem, having just one menu made it difficult to choose mocktails, especially when put on the spot. We had to keep passing it around, which felt unnecessary.
For starters, I ordered the onion bhaji, which was very bland and dry. It came flat like a fritter rather than crispy, with no salad or garnish—just a light drizzle of sauce. We also ordered fries specifically as a sharer, but were brought a mug-sized portion, which was clearly not enough for four people.
When ordering mains, the service felt rushed and impatient. The server kept interjecting with questions, making it hard to think or ask for clarification. When I asked how big the naan bread was and whether one would be enough for four people, the response was “normal size” followed by “I don’t know what to say,” which came across as fed up and dismissive. We agreed to two garlic naans, only to be told afterward that we’d just be getting a “family naan” anyway.
I also asked if my chicken could be tikka instead of plain. While I understand menu changes aren’t always possible, the response—“we will not be changing what’s on the menu for you”—was said very firmly and came across rude rather than polite or explanatory.
The timing of food and drinks was also very poor. Starters arrived well before any drinks, which was frustrating as we were already thirsty. The naan bread then came out long before the mains. While others enjoyed their dishes, my chicken biryani was extremely dry and came with no sauce at all, unlike most biryanis.
Another major issue was hygiene. There were small flies everywhere—on the table, around us, and even on the food. At one point, I could see multiple flies walking over the large family naan that was hanging up. This was in February, which makes it concerning to think what it might be like in warmer months.
We also ran out of water quickly and couldn’t find any staff to refill it, so I had to take water from another table myself. One item we ordered was later said to be unavailable after we’d placed our mains, but although it was swapped, the bill wasn’t corrected and we ended up paying more.
Trying to leave was just as frustrating. We had to go to the bar to ask for takeaway containers, then waited another 15 minutes with no staff in sight, and had to get up again to ask for the bill.
To add to the strange atmosphere, music only started playing around 9:30pm as we were trying to leave, which was quite sudden and made us jump. It felt oddly timed and added to the overall sense of disorganisation.
For four people having just starters and mains, nearly three hours in the restaurant is far too long. The experience felt disorganised throughout: unwelcoming on arrival, rushed ordering, slow and strangely timed service, kids running around screaming freely, inattentive staff, and serious hygiene concerns. Overall, it wasn’t an enjoyable evening and unfortunately not somewhere I’d return to.
The food was outstanding. Every dish was bursting with flavour and beautifully presented. The starters were fresh and perfectly spiced, and the mains were rich, aromatic, and incredibly satisfying. The butter chicken and lamb dishes were especially memorable, and the naan and biryani were cooked to perfection. You can really taste the quality and authenticity in every bite.
Service was equally impressive friendly, attentive, and professional without being intrusive. The staff made us feel genuinely welcome and ensured everything was perfect throughout our visit. Our drinks arrived promptly, and recommendations from the team were spot-on.
The overall experience was exceptional great food, excellent service, lovely ambience, and fantastic value for money. Whether you’re going for a casual meal, celebration, or date night, Haveli The Yard is a must-visit. We’ll definitely be returning soon and highly recommend it to anyone looking for top-quality Indian cuisine.
