It’s been years since I’ve been to the Rhinelander pub and I decided to bring my mother there who used to be a waitress
I understand it’s a supper club
And that the atmosphere is dark and kind of dinghy
But for me that was
Kind of a minus about the atmosphere

Our waitress was very nice I liked her
But the odd thing was this place was not busy in fact it was almost empty and it took forever to at least get our order and then it took quite a while to even get the salads

It’s not like I was watching the clock but I had my 88 year old mother there and even she said just before the salad came
Come onnnn

So compared to most of the fish fries I’ve been to I was surprised at how long it was taking

The salsa came where nice I enjoyed the salad it was a nice size that had plenty of dressing and you know not a lot of tomatoes or cucumbers but still it was it was acceptable

The meal then came immediately right after the salads which was nice

Unfortunately I was hugely disappointed with the fish fry. It was breaded haddock
It was very very greasy very very mushy and not crispy at all it was it was a real disappointment

For the price is one pays I would not ever ever go back there and have fish again

I did get a huge baked potato but you can’t get that wrong

The sour cream was excellent

The rye piece of toast that was on the plate was I thought pathetic

And there was a medicine cup of coleslaw which also was kind of pathetic

My sister had a steak and she said it was good not seasoned enough but she enjoyed it

Been to lotta restaurants in I would not go back

My bill was $78 and that was the hugest disappointment of all

We used to love coming here when we came to Rhinelander to drop off and pick up our boat for winter storage. This year, we had a less-than-stellar experience.
Service: Our server was amazing. He was very personable and attentive.
Food: This was a big disappointment. The disappointment started once we walked in the door and noticed they had the salad bar removed. The salad bar was a big reason we liked to come here.
Christi ordered the side of brussel sprouts. They came out very cold, as if they were in the refrigerator. We are not sure if that was how they were to be presented, but cold whole brussel sprouts are not pleasant to eat. We suspect they forgot to heat them up before serving. Her French dip (it goes by another name) was very good. The server did substitute the brussel sprouts for a very good side of risotto.
My burger (Wisconsinite Burger) was ordered medium. It came out very well done. Since it was smothered with sauerkraut and thousand island dressing, it was somewhat ediable. This burger would have been SO much better if it was properly cooked to order. The side of fries was very good.
Atmosphere: We were dining in a booth that was about 3 or 4 booths away from the kitchen. While waiting for our food, there was a lot of commotion going on in the kitchen. A couple of staff were either arguing or bantering with each other. Swear words were flying around like leaves in a late fall breeze. I wasn’t offended at all. It just wasn’t something you expect to hear in a nice establishment like this. One waitress heard it from the other side of the dining room, and she rushed into the kitchen to quiet the two down.
Summary: We had a fairly negative experience this visit. We have been coming here for the last 10 years, and this is the first time we have felt this way. With the absence of the wonderful salad bar, the decline of food quality, and staff experience, I think we will have to find another venue to visit during our semi-annual visit to Rhinelander.

Our waitress was very friendly and knowledgeable. Our booth was clean. It wasn’t to dark in there the lighting was good. The steaks are very good tender and juicy. The baked potatoe was delicious. The French onion soup was good. The only complaint I have was the onion chunks in the French onion soup could be smaller and there was a small nat flying around our table. Other then that it was delightful

Went on valentines day. Got seated right away with no reservation. However they had no silverware. No knives and we had one fork. Food was ok, overpriced. Took over an hour to get our food. Quality – service – atmosphere.. none of it equals the way exaggerated cost of it.

Came hungry. Left confused, disappointed, and questioning my life choices.

This place is a far cry from what it used to be. Whatever made it good back then clearly clocked out and never came back.

I paid $32 for a shrimp plate and received three shrimp and a scattered plate of cold, crusty fries—which somehow felt even more insulting than the shrimp count.

The service was slower than a Windows 98 startup, the food looked like it lost a fight on the way to the table, and somehow everything was both cold and overcooked.

I’ve had better seasoning from my own tears. The waiter disappeared like my hopes after the first bite.

Atmosphere felt like a dentist’s waiting room with worse lighting. If you’re looking for regret served on a plate, this is the place.

Would not recommend—unless you’re into emotional damage and expensive disappointment

We use to love going, even had birthday dinner with family. We were there on Saturday 12/20, sadly the quality has diminished, fast food offers better, but with a high price. Food was cold to luke warm at best, it wasn’t the service as i think they are doing their best with what they have to work with. The owner and manager didn’t even care to come talk to us about the food we received, cold, instead they sent the cook, how sad is that. We weren’t looking for any freebies, just wanted to discuss the sad meal we received. I can’t imagine how they stay in business, we won’t be back.
Not only was it was cold but they downsized the portions, for the price we expected more.
Shame on the leaders to not have the professionalism to come and talk to us.

The building is charming, and we were seated promptly.

Our server was very friendly and made some great recommendations.

They have a small salad bar, make their own dressing , and our meal came with 1 trip. This was a plus.

We ordered frenh onion soup and cheese curds, and I had steak tenderloins with gorganzola cream sauce. My dinner companions had the pork chop.

The cheese curds were okay, not greasy at all , but they lacked individual flavor. My steak was chewy and lacked seasoning, which was unfortunate because the sauce was flavorful and had a good consistency.

The pork chop bites I tried were good, not great, and overall the entire meal was just okay. I had expected more, especially for the price.

We just didn’t leave with that . Wow, that was a great dinner feeling.

I do want to end this review with a positive. The French onion soup was divine, and I would go back here for a drink. The old fashioned was nice , and the soup if I was in town again.

Heard mixed reviews prior to going for dinner with a group of 8…. Place was not what it used to be blah blah blah lol

Having never been here before in we all went. The food was prepared well and tasted good. Service was good, honestly could have been a little more attentive but not bad at all. Drink order from the bar could have been faster (read several reviews complaining about this). Not sure what the delay was since it wasn’t too busy.

Overall, nice place with good food. Prices are a bit high but then again the margins for restaurants aren’t very high and they have to make a profit to stay in business.

For everyone complaining about the cost…unfortunately everything is more expensive and yes you can make it cheaper at home but that’s just the way it is.

First time we have been here in 6+ years & will be that long before we go back. So disappointed. Food was mediocre. Drinks were good but holy smokes. I had an amaretto & sour, then a mellow yellow following. $4 for a fountain drink? Yikes. We were expecting the bill to be 80ish for two. $106. $22 tip & that was enough to walk away. Staff seemed nice but i should have taken the fact that no one was in there at 530 on a Saturday night as my cue. We will stick to Wolffs in Post Lake.

Friday night. Party of 6. We had Fish Fry, Ribeye, salmon & baked walleye. All the food was wonderful. My kids (13&10) loved the Craft Sodas! Our waitress Laura? Was friendly, helpful & attentive! Wait for food was a little long(45-60min.), but we were in no hurry . Would definitely come back.
