Usually a fan of little local Mexican restaurants, even the less than stellar variety, but this was just an irredeemably bad restaurant experience. The food was awful and the service was non-existent. Started to eat the bad looking food hoping it tasted better than it looked, nope. Cold, near tasteless with a bit of gross wetness. Wet paper towel microwaving anyone? Picking at it disappointedly, I discovered corn tortillas rather than the flour tortillas the menu described. After the food was dropped off, no-one ever came back so I went to the counter and told them of the flour vs corn tortilla issue and the woman just said “yeah, sometimes she does that, anything else today?” and rung me up (from memory apparently). Will most definitely never be back.

An easy pass no matter how hungry you are. You want to pass this up.
Called El Patron now. Stopped as I saw multiple vehicles there, hoping for a treat. Least authentic Mexican food I’ve ever had at a restaurant. Wasn’t horrible nasty, but, school lunch-like is what I would call it. Ground beef with no seasoning?
Top it off the place was horrendously filthy throughout. I just hope I survive it. Yes it’s that bad. A big regret stopping here.

I drive 100 miles out of my way to eat here. The refried beans and salsa alone make the extra mikes worth it. I’ve found nothing like it in Colorado.

Went in alone, 1130a in a Tuesday, they weren’t busy yet. I ordered the Specai, which was 2 enchiladas and 2 toastadas for $7.75.
The waitresses were kind of slow and disorganized. Once my order was taken the food came out fast, looked good and tasted excellent. The price was reasonable.
The inside is older and could use some updating…. newer tables and chairs etc. Overall a good experience. Definitely a local eatery worth supporting. I would eat here again…

Visited Ranchito last fall and really enjoyed the food. (I wasn’t able to leave a review at that time!). The sauce was homemade and tasty, enchiladas were very good. When in town, we will go back!!!

Made an unplanned trip to Garden City, Kansas and had a wonderful Mexican meal here. Tacos, tostadas and enchiladas! Service with great, and the place was very clean! The owner was very nice also! Would recommend the Ranchito Cafe in Lakin Kansas to anybody!

This eatery came highly recommended and didn’t disappoint.
Laid back family-style ambiance with typical genre decorations. It wasn’t as busy inside as the parking lot would have indicated.
Service was basic and thorough, if unenthusiastic.
Food was above par for this size restaurant, so far from a metropolis. I guess that’s a vote in their favor. Lack of competition may have allowed them to focus on great quality versus glitz.
Seems to be the local favorite and rightly so. A recent anniversary celebration is testament.

This is a hometown mom and pop business. My daughter worked there in high school. When she was at Ft. Hays State University, she would take food back for other local students. When my middle son was in the Navy and came home, he wanted to go there. Mexican food is stellar. But Norma’s flattop is so seasoned, the cheeseburger is great. No matter what you order, ask for it to be smothered.

Well I don’t know if they can’t get spices in Kansas, or these folks just don’t use them. But if there were plain vanilla enchiladas those were it. I was really hungry, they were edible. The salsa might have driven by a pepper farm, but you sure couldn’t taste any, serious white guy blend. If you just want food it’s a good place. If you want Mexican food head further south.
