We made a reservation at Same Same for a party of seven and were expecting a full menu, but the options were more limited than we anticipated.
We ordered the Penang curry, steak, bánh mì, and beef lettuce wraps. Everything was fantastic except for the curry. It was a bit different from what we’re used to, very lime-forward, though it still tasted good. Our favorite by far was the bánh mì.
The ambiance was cool and eclectic, with lots of interesting photos and artwork throughout the space. I especially loved the large sign you’ll see in the photo below.
Service was good overall. The drinks leaned on the sweeter side, especially the Old Fashioned and Manhattan.
Overall, I’d recommend this spot. Just be prepared for a smaller menu than expected.

I started with the wonton samosa, a playful and delicious fusion that balanced crisp texture with rich, flavorful filling. It was the kind of appetizer that sets the tone for the meal—unique but approachable.
For drinks, the Sioux City Old Fashioned impressed me with its balance. Smooth, well-crafted, and just the right level of boldness—it paired beautifully with both the starter and the main course.
The highlight of the evening was the grilled New York steak. Perfectly cooked to almost blue, very juicy, and seasoned with care, it showed off the kitchen’s skill. The flavors were deep and satisfying, and the preparation respected the cut without overcomplicating it. The Thai chili dipping sauce was phenomenal.
To end the meal, I was lucky enough to try something off-menu: the secret Thai Tea Tiramisu. This dessert was nothing short of brilliant—silky layers with the fragrant sweetness of Thai tea, offering a twist on a classic that I won’t forget.
The service was attentive without being overbearing, and the atmosphere struck a balance between stylish and relaxed. The music was fun and fit their style. The art was punchy and the added punk twist took me back. Same Same is the kind of restaurant that makes you want to come back—not just for the food, but for the sense that every detail has been thought through.

I wanted to reach out and share what a wonderful experience I had visiting your establishment recently. Coming across your place was a pleasant surprise; the atmosphere is incredible and truly made me feel as though I had been transported to Japan.
The food was exceptional. We particularly enjoyed the hot potatoes, cucumber salad, Banh mi, and the wings, all of which had fantastic flavors. If I lived closer, I would certainly be a frequent visitor.

Awesome Thai restaurant!
Same Same doubles as a bar, we went to an 8pm reservation and spilled into the bar/nightclub turnover at 9 pm.
The atmosphere and staff were amazing, super vibes and slick. Wait staff was friendly and knowledgeable, and not pushy.
The food was insanely fresh and quick. Food came out hot and all the flavors were on point. It’s traditional Thai, with a modern spin.
Highly recommend the chicken wings, and the tuna crudo.
And since it’s a bar, the drinks are creative and tasty.
Sits in upper floor of a Carlsbad shopping center, and kind of hidden in the back.
Love this place, well done.

We sat at the bar so we had great service. The dining area is on the small side. Of course it’s hard to interact with 6 people at the bar, lol. We ordered the whole fish. I think it may have been a special. It was a rock fish, I believe. He had teeth and all!!! We shared it between 3 people. It was hard to know how to approach eating it at first, Ha! But once we dug in it was really good! I definitely swallowed a few small bones though. The cocktails are yummy too. The menu is hilarious with a quote for every drink. I love the plants everywhere! There’s even a small patio with seating as well. It’s a fun place in Carlsbad Village

We went on 830pm on MLk day. We were sat without any warning about the kitchen closing. We ordered and then had to repeat half our order because the server was “distracted” by their own admission. We were then informed our apps were able to be made but the kitchen had shut down the required station for for my company’s dish but my own food could be made. I was asked if that was OK to which I said no we would like both of our entrees or neither. Lettuce wraps were great, but there needs to be better communication between boh and foh. Food, cocktails and atmosphere were great and will be giving same same a second chance for sure.

Absolutely brilliant; short menu with delicious options. The drinks are a little cheeky and clever with flavor to match. Persian cucumbers are light and refreshing; the chicken sandwich has good spice and crunch. Excited to return and try more items!
