Social Profile:

Maggie’s is a family and veteran owned sandwich shop located in the heart of downtown Fredericksburg at 820 Caroline Street. Our menu includes specialty sandwiches, subs, paninis, soups, salads, and desserts. Maggie’s brews and kegs our homemade craft root beer, ginger ale, and cream soda in house that is served on tap. We also offer a large variety of chips and bottled drinks. Maggie’s is housed in an original 1825 building that has been recently remodeled to include an ADA compliant restroom and seating inside the building. The decor inside the building is represented by many different items related to the history of Fredericksburg. Our 2 tiered garden-style patio for outdoor dining is located in the rear of the building.

I had seen several social media posts about Maggie’s so we decided to give them a try for lunch on a weekday. They not only make sandwiches here, they also make their own sodas too. Their menu was quite large, with hot dogs, cold subs, hot sandwiches, and paninis listed. They also feature a couple soups daily. When we went, they had a loaded baked potato soup and a lobster bisque.
The young girl working the front was very happy and helpful and gave some good suggestions too. The place is quaint, with several tables and lots of historic signs on the walls.
We started with their baked potato soup – The overall flavor was nice. But the potatoes in it were rubbery, like they used the wrong type of potato or maybe over-cooked it. Also, the soup was just warm, far from being served hot.

Next up were the sandwiches – I chose the BBQ chicken sandwich, which had thinly sliced chicken breast on it, along with BBQ sauce, mayo, and onions. The sandwich was pressed, like a panini and was pretty good. I liked the smokiness of the BBQ sauce. I also got a bottle of their homemade root beer and it was pretty good. They serve Route 11 potato chips, which are my favs! So, I had to pick up a bag of Mama Zuma for later – those things are spicey, hot, and tasty!

Overall, it’s a nice spot, I can see them being a popular lunch spot downtown.

I stopped by to grab a quick lunch while waiting for one of the galleries to open. Any of my family will tell you the way to my heart is a grilled cheese with tomato soup. They delivered for sure . Provolone and Swiss melted properly with the proper toasted crunch. Tomato soup was delicious for dipping. I saw the ice tea in the fridge. The young lady at the register proudly told me she made the ice tea. I looked in the fridge and was amazed at all of the flavors Maggie’s now bottled. I had a lovely conversation with 2 of the owners about their product. They have several locations that they are delivering to in the Northern Neck. Among them Gardening Gays and Catfish Kelly’s. I was able to pre order 2 cases of tea for pick up. The mint tea is excellent.

This was our second time trying Maggie’s. The first was immediately after they opened and that was not a good experience at all (even taking into account the ‘newness’). We decided to give it another shot today based on newer reviews. While it was much better than before, it still wasn’t great. The best part was the outdoor patio. It was a beautiful afternoon to sit out and have lunch. The patio is adorable and I’m sure will look amazing in the warmer weather, with all the flowers blooming. The woman behind the counter was polite and helpful, answering our questions but not overly friendly. The food was good but not great. There just wasn’t enough substance/flavor to either sandwich. The memorabilia inside was very cool. We may come back if it’s a glorious day and we would like to dine outside, but there are lots of outdoor dining options in the burg these days.

What a unique and special place. Made to feel like a valued customer the moment we walked in and were extended a warm greeting. A staff member asked if first visit and made several suggestions after we expressed some preferences. The best ham sandwich (full of meat on a Kaiser roll) I’ve ever eaten, delicious cream of lobster soup, locally created ginger ale and vanilla cream soda while topped off with a delicious root beer float (again locally created root beer) made this quite a fondly memorable meal. Highly recommend this hideaway.

Newly opened, my GF and I decided to stop. Love this place, the small deli feel, with friendly service and good food. We got one of their specialty items, the TECH. Mounds of turkey with, Swiss cheese, orange cranberry relish, and mayo. I recommend you get it without the mayo. The NAT was my choice, just felt like a good all beef Nathan’s hot dog. Stuffed into a lobster roll, with your choice of, relish, mustard, ketchup, and onions, and I got 8oz of their lobster bisque. Very good flavor, just a bit too thick. We love the outside seating, a garden like setting, with comfy chairs and tables, with umbrellas. Very clean bathroom, and restaurant. We will be back many times.

A nice spot downtown for a quick bite. The menu offers lots of sandwich options. There is a sandwich available for all palates and dietary restrictions. I had the Hayscale and it was absolutely delicious. Try this place for lunch, you will definitely return as will I.

Great sandwich shop. Had their summer special with ham and a peach/apple relish. Sandwich was really good. Packed with ham and the sauces weren’t overpowering. Can’t wait to try the rest of the sandwiches and try their homemade soda.

We were looking for a good sandwich shop while passing through Fredericksburg, Va. This is the place to come for an incredible array of sandwiches, drinks and sides. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable and the restuarant space is inviting and comfy casual.
Do yourself a favor and stop by Maggie’s.

Went out for an afternoon ride and stopped by Maggie’s Subs and I’m glad I did.

Super friendly folks. Delicious sandwiches and home brewed root beer.

It’s like stepping into a mini Fredericksburg museum.

I never knew this little spot existed, but I’m glad I found it! Everything was so delicious and their homemade root beer was so good. The employees were very friendly and the outside seating is shaded. Will definitely be back. 🙂
