On a picture-perfect Thursday afternoon in early September, Zeb Hargett and I decided to treat ourselves to lunch in downtown Mobile.

We just so happen to randomly stop to get lunch here while driving through Mobile, and it was such a wonderful surprise. Not only was the place, beautifully decorated and aesthetically, pleasing, but the food was even better than the views. The burger was cooked perfectly and I must admit I was skeptical to try it first, but it ended up being one of the best burgers I’ve ever had. For dessert, we got the bread pudding and it was to die for. The staff was super friendly, and the owner came in personally greeted us. We cannot wait to go back.

Pentons Bistro is an absolute must-visit. The cozy atmosphere, southern-inspired cuisine, and incredible cocktails make this place stand out every single time.

The shrimp po’boy is hands-down one of the best I’ve ever had — perfectly seasoned and packed with flavor. And the crawfish beignets? Unreal. Crispy, savory, and unforgettable.

From the burgers to the seafood, everything is done right, and the staff is friendly and attentive.

I went with a friend before we went to the Saenger for a show. It was wonderful , we had the Brie for our appetizer , and I had the scallops for dinner which were delicious. It’s so pretty inside and caddy corner to the Saenger , so perfect location.

My wife and I were down for the night. As we passed the Saenger, we asked a police officer where is the best steak around. He pointed and said there is your place. My wife had the filet and I had the blackened redfish. Both dishes were absolutely amazing. The bartender waited on us and he was just like the food. AMAZING!!! If we travel back down that way, there is no doubt we will be stopping again.

You would think that service & food would suffer during the crazy busy Mardi Gras season! Well that was not the case! David, Criss treated us like Family and our waiter Will was amazing!! The food was beyond delicious!! Our table of 5 highly recommend this Pentons Bistro & the King Bleu Corner Bar! Love Love and we will now make this a family tradition so see you next Mardi Gras or sooner the next time we are in town!

Food, wine, service and ambience were all terrific, and Bells, on her first night working there, was fun, helpful and attentive (we were there early, so it wasn’t busy yet). I had grilled scallops with butternut squash risotto, and wife had shrimp pasta. Both were excellent, flavorful and well-presented. Bells sent us to her favorite (other) bar, which was a great recommendation. Decorations were “funky, but in matched sets,” for want of a better description.

Penton’s catered my engagement party (about 50 people) this past December. The food and service were absolutely amazing. They arrived an hour early to make sure everything was setup and looked aesthetic. Our (my fiancée and mine) families still rave about the food. It consisted of sashimi and wonton crackers, bread pudding (best I’ve ever had), muffulettas, beef sliders and chicken curry wraps. If you are considering eating at Penton’s or using them to cater an event, you’d be silly not to.

It was difficult to pick from the menu because everything looks so good. I finally settled on braised short rib ($36) and Hermes express ($12). The short rib came in a mini cast iron pan, and sits on top of a bed of gnocchi. The meat was oh so good: super tender and flavorful that no knife was necessary. The gnocchi was ok, but I personally prefer to have potatoes to go with the sauce. Despite that I still think the food deserves 5*.

The decor is that of a warm and inviting home. I would definitely recommend it for a romantic date night, any celebration, or just some excellent food.

Went there for a quick bite before a show at Saeger on 1.25.26.
We got seated immediately and from there it was downhill. We literally waited for 1.5hrs for our food. We kept asking & the waitress said it was coming. After others began to complain, the Mgr came out & actually said no other restaurant in the area would have their food ready before the show began. He stopped at my table & I told him he’s got 15mins to get our food out or we were leaving. Food got there, I had chicken breast, it was luke warm, dry & the sauce was bitter. Potatoes were plain cold. You knew it had been sitting for awhile.
I was actually glad she forgot my side of veggies. (My date ordered scallops, nothing special about those).
For the price of the food & the mgrs attitude, the overall experience was horrible. There’s plenty of other restaurants in the area that I will go to before going to Penton’s again.

Their first drag brunch was so much fun today. The food was lick the plate good! They have Mobile’s bartender of the year and the owners were so friendly and welcoming. What a great first visit! We will definitely be back.
