The food here is exceptional, featuring beautifully cuts of fish and my favorite miso and Japanese salad. The quality ingredients and presentation are top-notch. However, the overall experience was disappointing.
The restaurant itself is in a state of disrepair. It’s run-down and not very clean. We arrived around 7 pm on a Saturday, we were seated in the far back corner, near the kitchen and bathroom. To our dismay, there was a cart of dirty dishes right next to our table, emitting a foul odor. It took about 10 minutes for the staff to remove it to the kitchen. Thankfully, we were about to leave when it was finally taken away.
The wait to place our order was another 15 minutes, and it took over an hour to receive our food. We were grateful that we weren’t in a hurry. Despite the long wait, the food was still worth it. However, with so many other great options available, we may have to wait a while before returning.
The bathrooms were also in a state of disrepair. There was plenty of street parking in the front and more in the back. The service was not as friendly and personable as we’ve experienced at other restaurants. We suspect that they were understaffed on the day of our visit.
Overall, this was our second visit to the restaurant, and while we will definitely return for the amazing food, we won’t be doing so anytime soon.

I ordered the sushi & sashimi combo, the tempura roll with soy paper, shrimp tempura, and shrimp shumai. The fish was much fresher than I expected, and the overall quality of the food was impressive. The staff were all very friendly and attentive, and the service was smooth. Overall, it was a better dining experience than I anticipated!

Had dinner here tonight and it was delicious! Dragon Roll, Caterpillar Roll, Steamed Edamame, and Hot Sake. Everything was fresh, tasty, and beautiful. Service was fast and friendly. Would definitely recommend!

The sushi is excellent and the prices are decent. Service is a bit hit or miss. I’ve had genuinely great service and other times it’s been just okay. The bento box is really good, and the sashimi is superb. Also: the hot tea is so good.
Overall, I’d definitely recommend JV Sushi if you want quality sushi for a good price.

I’m in love with this place.
Actually there is one problem. It’s a waitress that can lie on your shoulder while you’re ordering. Most often, she is surprised when you order one dish for two, but this dish is not the only one and you ordered more than enough. It was unpleasant. It’s good that a nice waiter girl worked that shift, who brought the missing dishes, which we asked our waitress about.
But when we came to this place for the first time, we had a chance to meet a wonderful waiter boy. He was very kind and helpful with the choice of food. It is because of him that we returned for the second time.
And the dishes are always very appetizing and amazingly fresh. We love great chefs! One of them loves to be creative and decorate dishes for different clients with his own style. That’s lovely!

Wow! What a fun time we had last night. My wife is not a huge sushi fan and surprised me with this dinner suggestion. The food and atmosphere were great, we will be back!

The food was really good and fresh. The gentleman that sat us and took our drink order was really nice. However, the gentleman that took our food order kind of kept forgetting we were there, never offered refills, and we were only one of two tables. He even mixed up our payment at the end, we almost paid for the other guests. Other than that the food was good, I will be coming back, but double checking my receipt before leaving.

Was alright. Shared a couple rolls and they were all just decent. Lots of ends on the rolls which made them pretty hard to eat. Place was empty. Tap water tasted kinda gross.

This place is amazing! I didn’t even know it was here in Fox Lake. But I am so glad my husband told me about it. The atmosphere is amazing, the music is beautiful and the lighting is warming and comfortable. The staff are happy and very kind. They’re also extremely helpful! And the food? 10/10!! The sushi is perfect, not too much rice and super tasty. The bento boxes are great too. I can’t wait to come try some special sushi rolls next time. Highly recommend! Great for a date night or for ordering in after a long day. 🙂
