Hope you’re all having a fantastic year now that the snowcrete’s finally mostly gone!
The crispy fried beef & garlic pork will forever be two of my all time favorites!
What truly sets Hunan Cafe apart is their commitment to delivering flavorful, well-prepared dishes. Every meal I’ve enjoyed here has been satisfying both in portion size and taste. The kitchen demonstrates a clear understanding of balancing bold flavors with quality ingredients, resulting in dishes that are both authentic and appealing to diverse palates.
The restaurant’s greatest strength lies in their vegetable preparation. Despite being generously coated in various sauces, the vegetables consistently maintain their fresh, crisp texture—a testament to proper cooking technique and timing. Whether it’s broccoli, snow peas, or mixed vegetables, each retains its natural bite and vibrant color, elevating dishes that could easily become soggy in less capable hands.
The generous portions ensure excellent value for money, while the consistent quality across visits speaks to reliable kitchen standards. Each dish arrives fresh and hot, with flavors that are well-developed and balanced.
The combination of flavorful food, proper vegetable preparation, and adequate service makes this a reliable choice for satisfying Chinese cuisine in the Fairfax area. Sometimes a restaurant simply works better for certain diners, and Hunan Cafe has certainly worked well for me. Support your local mom and pop places!
The kung pao chicken is absolutely awful. Never get this. The chicken is in super small pieces and it’s more fried exterior than actual meat. It also has a super lackluster taste.
Food came out pretty quickly though which is nice.
I ordered egg drop soup, lunch portion of chicken fried rice and beef lo mein. You can see from the photos that there is visible mold on the scrambled eggs and on the noodles. The manager asked if I refrigerated the food, which of course I did, but as you can clearly see that mold doesn’t grow in just 3 days. I was refunded my money but I’ll never return.
Please check your food before you eat it.
To me this is like beyond burgers and impossible meat but in Chinese food. Yea it’s close and it’s not that bad, but it will never be as good as the real stuff.
