Bolero is your quintessential neighborhood bistro. The entrance is tucked in a narrow alleyway just off Front Street in the City of Hamilton, giving the restaurant a sense of secrecy, a place only the locals know about. Since 2007, Bolero has remained a favorite of the city, a welcoming sanctuary for an eclectic clientele from all walks of life. When it comes to food, though, Bolero thrives by distancing itself from ‘the Bermuda norm’. Taking inspiration from the ever-prevalent and vibrant upscale dining scene in the UK and Europe, we serve up good, honest food.

So, to the food. We love French food and this is French influenced so we can forgive the odd missing accents on the menu (just get a marker pen to sort those out).
The starters were very good. We had the steak tartare and chilli shrimp. Both delicious. Again, the cremè brûlée was on point. Everything was beautifully presented, however the mains let the show down. The quality of the ingredients was evident but everything was underseasoned – and with no on-table seasoning it should be. The filet steak didn’t appear to be seasoned and, although cooked to perfection, the charred exterior tasted acrid. The beef hotpot again, should have burst with flavour, the mash potato though creamy and buttery was bland, and the peppercorm sauce appeared to have no flavour at all (not even pepper). Pop down to Bermuda Bistro for a peppercorn sauce that will knock your socks off.
Overall, some of the food was a 5 and some a a plain average 3. For an expensive meal, it should have been top notch and if they can put more flavour into the dishes then Bolero will become a firm favourite.
