Sweet. Onion Maiden hits the sweet spot between serious and silly. The names of the dishes are silly dad jokes but the food is seriously delicious and precise. Our party included vegans, lactose intolerant and celiacs. But the incredible staff at Onion Maiden handled it all very well. Plus, everything tasted great! I think my favorite thing was the service as our waitress was possibly the best waitress I have ever encountered!

The Onion Maiden was fantastic vegan! They sat me down instantly, provided great service and were helpful with recommendations. I had a few bites of a few items on the menu bc I wanted to try it all! The hot dog was by far the best! It was just a touch spicy & sweet. The restaurants decor is so fun. Absolutely would go back.

I wanted to go somewhere with good vegan food and sit down one night, so I thought I would try this place. I guess I didn’t expect it to be so busy! It’s also pretty small. Anyway, I just decided to order some takeout food and hangout on a waiting bench. The food took awhile, but I was alright with waiting. I ordered the Balls to Wall (tofu croquettes), the Raw Cheesecake otd (blueberry… thyme, I think?), and a wedding cookie from the display case. The tofu croquettes were amazing themselves. Crispy on the outside and smooth-thick on the inside. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the forbidden rice (I ended up just eating the croquettes as they were, because yum, and a pile of rice was left staring at me), but I appreciated it as an occasional accoutrement to the croquettes. The cheesecake… was the most beautiful little cheesecake I had ever seen in my life. And it was delicious. The “crust” was actually pretty crunchy, contrary to a lot of other raw cheesecakes, so I was impressed. The wedding cookie was equally delightful in taste; nothing could match the cheesecake’s presentation, though. All-in-all, I guess I had a lot to say. Maybe getting the food wasn’t as smooth as I’d planned, but I enjoyed it quite a bit.

Thankful to have found this place. I very much appreciate that the entire menu is vegan. Even as a picky eater, I was able to find something I liked! The ube cheesecake was incredible, as was our server. Food was delivered very quickly once our order was placed. Will be back for sure!
Dining area is rather small and there aren’t many seats, so it can feel a bit cramped but no complaints what so ever.

Super cool vibe here! Amazing food. Hot dogs – so good. Donuts – wish I could have one everyday! Nachos – yes get in my belly please. Their stir fry though was disgusting(in my opinion). #eatingwithshelbie

I forgot to write a review for Onion Maiden when I went back in October 2020. I found my notes on the restaurant on my phone and decided I needed to share. Short review would be, good, but small portions and overpriced for the food items. The taters were visually pleasing, as you can see. However the portions were very small and the toppings was not enough for the taters (especially for almost $9/order). They were very dry because of that. The general NGOs taters had a better ratio but still dry. We wondered how two very sauce Centered dishes were so dry! We got two dawgs. The kimmy gibbler and the hang ten. Both were very underwhelming especially for $6/hot dog. We’re big foodies and got dessert. The tiramisu was very dry. It was more like a chocolate cake with chocolate mousse. Reminded me more of a Black Forest cake. The ice cream sandwich was rock hard! We thawed it for over 20 minutes and while the ice cream softened, the cookie felt like it was out to break our teeth! Over all, we felt like the food was overpriced for the portions and the flavor. It wasn’t anything out of this world/something that we weren’t able to make at home for way less. Still out on the search my vegan “go-to” spot in Pittsburgh.

This. Place. Is. BOMB!!! We do love vegan food, but don’t exclusively follow a vegan diet or anything, and MAN this place is STILL such a treat!!
The presentation, quality and value is amazing. All the food shown in my photo post was only $37.
We got tots, steamed buns, a scallion pancake jackfruit taco and two loaded veggie dawgs.
What creativity they’ve achieved here with such amazing flavor combos. Even the side dish of kale was superb!!!
Onion Maiden is awesome.

I’m not even vegan and I enjoyed my meal throughly, if that’s not a resounding endorsement then I don’t know what is!! Heads up it’s cash only. I enjoyed the beet tacos the most, hands down – they also had a nice spicy kick. Cute bits of merch for sale in case you want to take some of the theme home with you

Average food, slow service, and pretentious enough to be cash only…no thanks
Whenever I’m looking for a new restaurant, I usually check the Google reviews. After having dinner here, I’m surprised Onion Maiden has so many 5 star reviews.
Based on my experience here, I began to wonder why this place has so many positive reviews. The food at Onion Maiden is average, we had the Fist Full of Curry, Dan Halen, Weekend Nachos, Manowar, and Trooper. The dawgs were overpriced and disappointing. Nachos were equally disappointing. Seemed like smothering their menu items with cashew cheese sauce is a theme. The curry soup and dan dan had a bit more flavor, but not good enough for me to recommend to friends and family. I would not go out of my way to eat here again.
Why does Onion Maiden get so many 5 star reviews? Pittsburgh is not vegan friendly, with very few vegan options in the area, the bar is low. If Onion Maiden was in a bigger vegan friendly market like Portland, San Diego, LA, Las Vegas, Orlando, or even Richmond VA; they would probably see more 3/4 star reviews.

The atmosphere of this place is amazing and the food was wonderful! FYI, you don’t have to worry about making a reservation unless you’re a party of 6 or more; they don’t take them for fewer than that. The place is small and does have limited seating, but even so, my husband and I only waited a half-hour to get a table for dinner. I got the Headbangers Balls and I’m already craving it again. My husband and I both got the Terrormisu for dessert (to go). SO GOOD!! I can’t wait to go back!
