Secret Kitchen is a solid Cantonese restaurant located in Fresh Meadows and it’s such a convenient location on Horace Harding with so many other stores nearby. There is a small parking lot around the corner, but street parking is also available. I’ve been coming here for a few years now and their food has always been consistent. Their Gold & Silver Egg Fried Rice is probably one of my favorite dishes from them. It’s full of flavor and they load it with something super crispy that gives the fried rice that extra texture. I wish I knew what the English name is for this dish, but the one with stir fried veggies with seafood and fried silky tofu with shrimp on top is another one of my favorites. I haven’t tried their lunch specials, but apparently it is worth it and delicious. There’s so many other dishes that they do really well, but honestly anything you order from them will be good.

TLDR: A solid find in Fresh Meadows. Classic Cantonese dishes but done really really well. Salted egg prawns, black pepper steak cubes and mushrooms, the fried sticky rice!
Popped in randomly on a weeknight with the family and so presently surprised. We got a bunch of things to share and everything was exceptionally good.
The salt and pepper anchovies were chunky, flaky but crispy on the outside. The stir-fried specialties is a mix of jicama, garlic chives, dried squid and fried anchovies. Savory, so much texture, beautiful colors and amazing with some rice.
The black pepper beef cubes with mushroom I was really shocked. Tender chunks of beef, a wonderfully rich mouthfeel with bouncy mushrooms. For such a classic dish – this was definitely the best version I’ve ever had.
Salted egg yolk prawns. Fried, massively jumbo shrimps tossed in the salted egg yolk. It’s hard to find a place that makes this and even harder to find one that gets it right.
The fried sticky rice though was the star for me. The dice on the ingredients is so fine, everything just mixes together perfectly. The fried taro, salami-like bites of chinese sausage, there was significant wok hei in this. We just got it plain but I can imagine with some seafoood – wow.
Haven’t been back since but I may need to pay another visit soon.

What a fantastic meal! I was really craving authentic Chinese food and this Cantonese restaurant absolutely hit the spot. We ordered the chicken feet, shredded jellyfish, snow peas, honey walnut shrimp, lobster fried rice, and roasted beef tenderloin in red wine. Though I’d never had Thai-style chicken feet and this particular jellyfish appetizer before, I was very pleased by the flavors and uniqueness of these dishes. The snow peas, on the other hand, tasted just like my mom’s cooking and reminded me of home. As for the main dishes, the shrimp and beef were some of the best I’ve ever had as the shrimp had this perfect texture to it and the beef was so tender it could melt in your mouth. If you’re a fan of seafood, I strongly recommend the lobster fried rice since not only was it fresh but the portion size was well worth the price. To finish it all off, we enjoyed a complimentary mango pomelo dessert that was refreshingly the right amount of sweet. Lastly, I’ve got to thank the service as our waiters were super attentive throughout our meal––we’ll definitely be back soon!

Firstly I like they have big tables in a room, secondly the service is great, they won’t hurry you. The foods overall is fine except the eggplant pot was quite small, and the shrimp dish was $28 for eight shrimps, and we have 9 ppl. We asked whether we can make it to 1 n half portion but was told it needed to be double. This is the first time I had such a small portion of this dish at this price.

The flavor is very good. But it’s not too spicy. The beef curry & Singapore noodles r not too spicy. Beef broccoli is better than other places.
2nd review:
We’ve been there many times & have taken friends there. Certainly, the service or manners are not consistent. The last time we were there when we told the waiter that the tablecloth had food on it. He told us the other table is the same, rather than apologizing & switching us. This is very typical of Chinese restaurants. Whenever you give them more business, they get cocky & rude. We are lowering the rating as it suits them now.

Stopped by to check this place out over the weekend, food was pretty good! Service was quick and everything came out really fast, friendly staff too! I recommend calling ahead to reserve seats since they get quite busy especially during dinner time. Cantonese style dishes for sharing, I’ll be coming back again next time to try out other stuff!

Delicious good qualities of Cantonese food with fare prices. We have family dinner with 1 appetizer, 5 main courses plus 4 bowls of rice, we paid about $136. Restaurant is clean, bright with few big round tables and small tables and good services. Highly recommended this place!!!
