That being said, nothing really stood out which is fine in a suburb but doesn’t really cut it when you are a Chicago bakery and your north side location is thriving.
I don’t really understand the contrast but I can tell you that the spinach in my spinach and feta croissant was scant and not evenly distributed. I enjoyed the tarts but can see them being too tart for some and the quiche was a full miss. It was kinda bland and the cheese was all at the bottom. Also, the floor was a bit on the dirty side.
Overall not a horrible time – I would give them a second chance when in need.

Yesterday, I walked into the bakery/pastry shop with the idea of getting a small gift for some residents in our self-managed condo who had had a long week. It seemed to me, on a Friday afternoon, that a special treat was in order, and a perfect start to their weekend.
Now, when you visit, you are always greeted by a friendly staff who take a few minutes to ask you how you’re doing, etc, and in the course of our conversation, I shared the plan for the macarons.
Without missing a bit, the young man turned and walked back to repackage the macrons in a small macaron gift box. When he returned, and as I paid for the macarons, he said, “Wish your residents a good evening.”
The level of kindness and generosity, as well as the listening, was extraordinary. It’s why I will always return.
So a HUGE THANK YOU to the staff at La Boulangerie & Co Hyde Park. You have a brilliant and dedicated team.
And, to close, the residents LOVED the macarons and the presentation.
Much peace.
