Chinese American Restaurant, located at 11317 Bissonnet St, Houston, TX 77099, is a hidden gem that has been delighting patrons with authentic Cantonese cuisine for years. Despite its unassuming exterior, this establishment offers a rich menu that caters to both traditional and adventurous palates.

Culinary Highlights:
• Deep-Fried Pork Ribs: A standout dish featuring golden, crispy exteriors with tender, flavorful meat inside. It’s a must-try for anyone seeking a satisfying crunch paired with succulent pork.
• Shrimp with Egg Stir-Fry: This dish showcases large, crisp shrimp enveloped in delicately cooked, tender eggs. The subtle seasoning allows the natural flavors to shine, making it a favorite among all age groups.
• Pork Rib Stew with Pumpkin and Taro: A unique offering that combines tender pork ribs with the sweetness of Japanese pumpkin and the earthy notes of taro. This hearty stew is both flavorful and health-conscious, providing a comforting meal without the heaviness of fried foods.
• Beef Tendon with Dried Tofu Skin: For those looking to explore beyond the usual fare, this dish offers a delightful combination of textures and rich, umami flavors. The slow-cooked beef tendon pairs perfectly with the chewy tofu skin, creating a memorable dining experience.

The restaurant’s commitment to using fresh ingredients and traditional cooking methods is evident in every bite. The chefs skillfully balance flavors, ensuring that dishes are well-seasoned without being overly salty, allowing the natural tastes to come through—a hallmark of authentic Cantonese cooking.

Whether you’re a longtime lover of Cantonese cuisine or new to its delightful flavors, Chinese American Restaurant promises a dining experience that is both authentic and satisfying. Highly recommended for those eager to explore the rich tapestry of Cantonese culinary traditions.

I ordered from DoorDash, and my food got stolen on the first attempt. I contacted DoorDash, and they promised a refund and that my food would be free. However, they charged my card twice for an order I never received. When I finally got my order, I was missing my Pepsi and duck sauce. This place is terrible. I shouldn’t have had to pay twice because a driver stole my food. The woman I spoke to on the phone was unhelpful and rude. Avoid this place! 67 no drink

One of the old school chinese restaurants that you pay for authentic Chinese food and not some fancy decorations.
That’s not why you come here.

It comes out hot and fresh. Family owned and reasonably priced.

I’m Cantonese and this hits the spot.

You can just use my photos and point if you want.

Some of our dishes as double portions so just a heads up.

It’s really hard to get good fried tofu like this place makes.

I’ve been learning to order in Cantonese because this is our family go to spot for the last 15 years.

My faves are the
-Fried tofu
-Fried spare ribs
-Chicken wings
-Beef pot
-Shrimp and egg
-Crunchy or flat noodle
-Green been beef
-Soft shell crab (if we celebrating)

The shrimp and egg dish not pictured is really good.

If you want authentic Chinese vegetables they can do it. We eat the one called “Dow mew”. Don’t know how to spell it. I believe it’s the spinach dish.

Like many said, don’t let the decor and appearances fool you. This place is a hidden gem with their delicious and well prepared Cantonese style food. I tried their signature dish of salt and pepper fried pork ribs, Cantonese combo crispy noodles and their fried sole fish. Everything was perfect and huge portions. Will definitely be back for more.

I ordered online for pickup. Service was great. The food okay. Ordered shrimp chow mein, received vermicelle and shrimp. And other items. The food was okay. But maybe other dishes maybe better. Definitely an American based version of Chinese cuisine.

Hands down some of the best Cantonese we’ve ever at the most lowest prices. We ordered 7 delicious dishes and it was $90!! The service was so quick and the ladies were so sweet and attentive! By far one of our favorite places now.

This is the true definition of a hole in the wall. Blink and you’ll miss it. Please don’t! The owners seem to be first generation folks and they don’t play. Service was fast and food was at the table within 10 minutes. Steaming hot and delicious!! Everything was perfect, fresh ingredients and cooked old word style. The interior of the restaurant is a little dated, but the food and service made up for it by all means. Visit if you dare, you will not regret it.

I found this place when I drop my clothes off at the dry cleaners next-door, and what caught my eye was the 6.99 shrimp fried rice with a free soda, and I kept seeing a lot of people coming in and out. So I knew it must’ve been good! The main problem I had with this restaurant was the older Asian lady taken the orders. She seemed very confused and a little slow acting about stuff when you ask her stuff about the food. She wasn’t the friendliest person. They made my order to go because, I thought I was gonna eat at home, but then I decided to stay there and eat, so I had grabbed two little containers of hot chili oil and she grabbed them off my table, and she said, since you’re eating here, you don’t need the togo hot chili oil. I was like that’s rude to grab something off my table and just turned her back. I asked for tea instead of a soda and she was like, you don’t just want a soda and I’m like no. She did not want to make tea because she was too lazy which is crazy, because she makes the tea in a coffee pot. As I was getting my refill at the counter she demanded a tip from me which is crazy because I never needed her service from her. She said, did you leave my tip on the table and I’m like whaaaat??? Tip for what? You didn’t do anything, everything thing is self help there. I wouldn’t recommend going here. Take it to go and I seen on other reviews that she will charge your card for a tip without you knowing it, so check your bank account before leaving. They also intend to forget stuff, so make sure to check your bags before leaving.

Everyone was very nice and welcoming.
Had Chinese broccoli and spicy shrimp in jalapeños and lettuce. It was all very delicious! The one thing that bothered me was the lemons I got but I was able to get better ones.

This used to be our go to place for salt and pepper pork ribs…always crunchy and very delicious until they changed management or original owner or cook is no longer there.

It’s just different. It’s no longer the same taste and crunchiness.
