Jul 10, 2022 and we had a private preview!
SUSHI KAZU is opening for sit down dining on Wednesday, Jul 13, 2022!
Check out the new pics!
Omakase, Miso White Tuna Acocado, Salmons n Carparcio. Baby Clams, Tempura appetizer, Fried Oysters. Yum yum.
Jan 9, 2022 and we are still doing the take out thing. It’s Ground Hog Day….
Food is the best as ever. Kazu San and Miyumi San are taking the orders and getting them ready for pickup. If you calling in start as early as 4pm for a 5-5:30pm pickup. Please do your part and go in there WITH A MASK. Last thing we need is for them to get sick. People will not know what they miss till they can’t get it.
Get the tuna carpaccio salad or the salmon carpaccio salad. Nice and light! Another fav is the White Tuna Avocado Miso salad!
(I believe it has peanut butter for those w/ nut allergies) just confirm.
As of June 13, 2021 Kazu is still TAKE OUT only. They are not offering sit down yet so don’t ask. I’m sure when they are ready they will let their clients know.
Same good eats but take out and it’s just as good!

went here for dinner with my friend, the sever was so rude giving us and other people around us problems. My friend ordered the special roll of the day and did not like it, we asked the server to kindly remove the item off our bill and she and the manager started arguing with us and refused to take it off the bill. I would not recommend coming here unless you want to pay a hefty bill and get attitude thrown at you by the workers.

By far one of the best in NJ! Kazu is a master when it comes to his fish. His knowledge and authenticity shows in every bite. The temperature of the fish is always perfect. Never left disappointed. We come here for authentic Japanese sushi.
PSA- you DO NOT come here for Americanized-sauce smothered/ fried half price special sushi.
If you are looking for uni, monkfish liver, snapper etc, Kazu will impress.
They are small. They do not take reservations. It’s first come first serve. We love it here.

Sushi by Kazu is a must-visit for sushi lovers in Freehold!
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Sushi by Kazu, and it was a fantastic experience from start to finish. The sushi was incredibly fresh, and the presentation was beautiful. I ordered a variety of rolls, and each one was expertly crafted with a perfect balance of flavors and textures.
The service was also outstanding. Our server (owner) was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. They were happy to answer our questions and offer recommendations. The atmosphere was relaxed and inviting, making it a great place to enjoy a meal with friends or family.
Overall, I highly recommend Sushi by Kazu to anyone looking for high-quality sushi in Freehold. I can’t wait to go back!

Sometimes reviews don’t need to be about the food… They need to be about the service. I have always had excellent food at this place. Yesterday, went to make a reservation on Google for two people at 6:00 PM. Google couldn’t accept the reservation and kept trying all day. Finally, we went to the restaurant at 6 PM only to have a very rude, and inexperienced young hostess look at us and say there’s an hour and a half wait and begin to walk away. I said wait a minute… I kept trying to make the reservation and nobody called me back to confirm. She simply said oh we don’t take reservations to which I said well… Then you should fix it online to not let people think that you do. While talking to her and looking around, I noticed almost 6 empty tables and one right in the middle of the restaurant for two with a few flower vases on them. I said very politely, none of those tables are available? And she said no, they are all taken. Well that’s odd. If you don’t take reservations, and nobody is here, how can the tables be taken. Mind you nobody was outside waiting. Didn’t try to accommodate, certainly didn’t apologize for any misunderstanding, and basically turned her back and walked away. So, to this restaurant, if you want someone to properly represent your brand, your passion, and your quality, that needs to start with the front of the house. They do represent you when you aren’t looking. I most likely will not go back as a result of this and for the silver lining, we found a brand new place, not far away that we had never known of that was excellent: Attitudes matter.

This place has terrible customer service! Went in there trying to get seated for a group of seven, we were told no big groups. No information was provided ahead of time to know even know that was the case cause they don’t answer their phones We asked if we could split a group of four and a group of three and they even refused that! . They don’t take reservations so it’s impossible to try to go there. Other options in freehold so take your business elsewhere.

Met Kazu and his wife many years ago when they were in a dead shopping strip in howell by Hwy 195. Really nice couple from Osaka, Japan. After talking to them on my many visits to the restaurant about Osaka, I went to Osaka. It is a lot more amazing than they described. I have now traveled to Japan over 6 times for sushi.
I moved out of the area for 7 years and just moved back to monmouth County. When searching for a sushi place, I found a familiar name and told my daughter about Kazu and his Mrs and how nice they are, and if we are lucky we can sit at the sushi bar and enjoy great sushi. We arrived at 6:15, in the middle of the terrantial rain, walking in the restaurant had 4 tables of 4 occupied, basically empty and 1 person sitting at the sushi bar. Stood at entrance waiting for a few minutes, Mrs Kazu walked over and said oh so sorry we have 1 hour wait, sushi chef very busy, she looked at me in shorts(85 degree day) and looked at my 7 year old and decided we are not good enough to dine at her restaurant. I saw similar reviews about rude and dismissive behavior, but today, I experienced it first hand. It almost felt like discrimination, I’m Asian, I only saw Caucasian guests, I wonder if it’s true, felt like that to me.
I would avoid this place if you are making plans you may be disappointed. If you dont fit the profile, you will probably be told we are busy with an empty restaurant. They don’t take reservations, do no excuses there.
The silver lining is I found a great Japanese restaurant in Farmingdale, NJ with amazing sushi, one of the best I’ve had in NJ along with very polite and attentive staff. The Restaurants name is “Ichi”

Excellent sushi and sashimi. Better than Manhattan and just as good as what I used to eat when I lived in Japan. The owners are wonderful people who make you feel welcome and comfortable. Highly recommended!

We ate here one time and enjoyed the sushi. We have gone back twice in the past month at dinner time and both times were told there was an hour wait. The restaurant barely had anyone there. Tonight we were told “if you’re hungry, probably not a good idea to wait”. Both times we then ate at the Vietnamese restaurant in same plaza. It was very good! Will not return to this sushi place.
