It’s all right, it’s a Popeyes. I like the chicken at KFC better. If you don’t get the spicy chicken it isn’t seasoned with anything. My tenders were cooked really nicely, but they just tasted like chicken and breading. There’s no 11 herbs and spices, there wasn’t an herb or spice that I really noticed. The coleslaw was pretty good on the other hand, and I think that the red beans and rice were the high point of my meal. I mean, I’m glad that we have a choice of chicken places in Ionia, but this isn’t the one that I normally choose.

My 2nd time eating at a Popeyes restaurant. I ordered a classic chicken sandwich with fries and coleslaw. I liked the coating on the fries. The coleslaw was different. It was good, but not a creamy white based recipe like we make at home. I wasn’t to sure about the pickles on my sandwich, but I still ate them. The chicken was moist and not overly fried & the coating was minimal & not thick. Overall, my lunch was just enough to fill me up.

It’s been years since I’ve had Popeyes, guess it’ll be a few more. Stood in the lobby with three other people. It sounded like the people in the kitchen couldn’t handle the two cars in the drive thru and were ignoring the lobby. I left after a couple minutes.
Let’s talk about Arby’s though, they’re directly across the street. They had a full drive thru, and still managed to greet me when I walked in the lobby. I waited less than a minute to place my order at the counter. The employee was polite and friendly. My food was how and what I ordered, made fresh, and promptly.
Arby’s treats me pretty well, I don’t think I’ll be going to that other place in ionia again. Why bother?

I absolutely love the food here. BUT! How the location in Ionia is run is a great way to ruin a franchise. Sunday, March 23, 2025, I stopped in around noon. There was only one customer in the entire lobby. She was clearly waiting for her food already. I stood at the counter for probably at least five minutes, possibly more before someone spoke with me. They are not busy. They are understaffed, and they do not care. The help was not rude, but definitely not pleasant. Popeyes is an example of a business that has great recipes, great food, decent prices, etc. however, when you run a restaurant like this, no surprise when you don’t have regulars and you’re not busy when other places are. This review is not based upon one single visit. We’ve been here many times. Almost the same story every single time. Even when we make a mobile order, they generally don’t even work on it until we get here. Which begs the question, why even do a mobile order if they’re not gonna start on it until after you arrive? If the franchise owner is reading this, do better or lose it.

Took the time to correct my order even though they didn’t have to. I had thought I ordered the crispy tenders but it must have gotten changed to blackened at checkout. I let them know and they had no problem making the crispy tenders for me!

We were out in the area because of a death in the family. We stopped by Popeye’s Chicken and we were reminded at least four times that they close in an hour. Our french fries were literally given to us in the bottom of a bag. While we were driving out there was a delivery truck blocking our exit. The drive through has concrete divides so it’s not easy to just turn around. The girl who took our order and served us at the window was in her vehicle smoking a cigarette at the time. She was very irritated and agitated with us as she hung out her driver side door and never said one word but looked at us as if we were a bother. There was no way to back up all I was trying to do was wait for the truck to get done so we can leave. It was not the best experience.

The lady at the front desk was very nice. Service was fast and friendly. I bought the 8 piece meal and for what I paid it was not worth it. The chicken all wings and drum sticks except for one breast was tiny. I bought a mix of regular and spicy. The regular had no flavor at all, the spicy was just okay. The side was one small tub of mashed potatoes with an odd flavor gravy and 4 hard biscuits. If I ever come it might be to try the wings but I doubt it.
