We came to Monroeville to visit the “To Kill A Mockingbird” sites. So this was a must. Not only is it significant for its location on the former site of the Harper Lee childhood home, but they serve a darn good burger and milkshake.

The rock wall next is the only remaining structure from the Lee property. It separated their yard from the Faulk’s, which is where Truman Capote grew up. You can see the remaining foundation of that home as well as an impression of the pond at the back of the house.

It seems to be a favorite place for locals as many cars came and went during their weekday lunch break while we were there.

I would rate Mel’s Dairy Dream 10 stars for its exceptional customer service and warm hospitality. Mrs. Pam’s hamburgers were delectable, and the ice cream was a delightful treat. The steak burger was cooked perfectly, and the fries were crispy with just the right amount of salt. As a first-time visitor to this charming town, I was impressed by the southern hospitality displayed at this establishment. I look forward to returning for more.

One of the original food spots in town. They have the best country style menu and the Steak Sandwich is delicious. But the best thing …. Their chocolate milkshakes. If you haven’t had one, you need to.

That was the best cheeseburger I’ve had in a long while, and the sweet potato fries were delicious too! The staff was friendly. If you are hard of hearing like me, you’ll appreciate that they ring a cowbell when your food is ready!

They have great burgers and Club Sandwich.
But the Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich, the meat is a little tough and has no seasoning to me.
The fries could use some salt.
I ordered a friend some Onion Rings and they were greasy, and hard.
I’ll only go there for the Club Sandwich.

Well, let me say this, since I was a little boy, I always love to go to Mel’s Dairy Dream for a Steak sandwich with cheese and a large chocolate milkshake… Been going here since at least 1 a week for 40 years, and everything is still in place, and food is still surpassing expectations. They need more places like this, it never get old just to stand in line, and wait on something good. Believe me, it is worth the wait.
