Our first dining experience at S&J GRAN CAFÉ was a special treat. Not being familiar with the Diamond Bar breakfast restaurants in the area, we walked in on a whim. No doubt we will return.
I ordered Chilaquiles with chicken. The dish is served hot with homemade green sauce, egg, crispy home made corn tortilla chips, and toppings. Yum! I also tried their Mexican Mocha café, served hot.
My husband ordered a ham and cheese omelet. This dish is served with mashed pinto beans and three homemade corn tortillas. His dish looked like a smaller serving than mine, but that’s okay because I now have leftovers to enjoy tonight.
The restaurant itself is modern in design with a colorful hand written menu mural of varying sized fonts. Very artistic!
As for the menu options, the dishes are influenced by a host of several Latin and Hispanic countries (e.g., Mexico, Cuba, Guatemala, Peru), and of course the U.S. Several dishes were accompanied with black beans or pinto beans, and plaintains were listed on a few.
The restaurant is at the back of The Plaza At Diamond Creek, so it is not easily viewed from the street. Our waitress was pleasant and readily answered all of my questions about the food. I highly recommend this place for your next meal.

Very friendly server. Great coffee!! It’s not instant coffee normally you get from normal breakfast place. The food was great specifically Mexican breakfast.

We were trying this place for the first time, everything looked good but you quickly get dissapointed with their service it took loong to get asked if we wanted cofffee etc. Finally we order coffee, waiters didn’t seem to know their dishes well, waiters were rude, when we asked questions about menu by then you know you will no longer enjoy your food. And we didnt. I got a Mexican Mocha since my food took long my husband was getting a warm up on his coffee I ask for just a little of the regular coffee to also warm up mine waiter pulled back and said no..we have eaten in so many places never have I been denied a little coffee, they could’ve offered a new cup I would’ve gladly paid. We eat out alot, this is one place we will Not be returning to.

I come twice a week for my pilate class and decided to try this restaurant on a Saturday morning after my class. When I got in, half of the booth tables were still empty. I had my little one with me, so I asked if I could get a booth table because it’s much easier to secure my son from running around. The female waitress gave me a poker face and said all those tables are reserved and only gave me a tiny table right beside the entrance. I asked again, she refused again and left for the kitchen immediately. I had to go back to Paris Baguette my usual place instead. When I finished my breakfast from Paris, I noticed their tables were still empty. I wish the store owner could see this. Thanks. It was around 10:30 am, and your restaurant was half full only. No way table were all reserved for breakfast by others, and too early if someone reserved for lunch.

This place was disappointing. The amount we paid for our party of 7 was $180. I’m visiting from Vegas and for the amount we paid, we could’ve went to eat at a much nicer establishment; one that was worth it. My father ordered the chorizo plate, took 1 bite and it was dry so he sent it back and ordered a simple 2 bacon, 2 egg plate instead. The waitress told us that we still had to pay for the chorizo plate. What kind of restaurant does this? Though we’re visiting, we’ll be sure to stay far from this place and never return.

4 years later I went back. They’ve been proved considerably although the service still needs something to be desired. I ordered the Chile Chili’s and they were very good. Not spicy enough for me but I guess I could have asked for a higher level of spiciness

I didn’t care for it I hope they were just having a bad day and the photographer is doing a fantastic job!

My second time here and did not disappoint. Took my friends for their first time and loved the food. We had breakfast on a Saturday morning: green Chilaquiles, Veggie Omelette and the Zapata Latte ! So delish ! The wait was worth it – hand made tortillas are awesome. Waitress/servers get busy – be patient and you will have a great experience.

Update:
I went today, and the dishes we ordered were pretty good.
Chilaquiles tasted so good. The salsa with the egg and chips was additive.
Huevos con Chorizo was good as the last time when I was here. The chorizo wasn’t too spicy and salty. It tasted good even with the corn tortilla.
French toast was just ok.
Mexican Latte had a strong flavor of cinnamon. I liked it, but I would go with half of the sweetness if possible.
Hot Zapata Latte Cacahuate was something new to me. It tasted like latte with peanut butter. It’s really smooth.
I will suggest to order their Mexican breakfast instead the American breakfast.
This new location is roomy and open. It’s great for small group gathering. Very cozy and comfy.

It was an average breakfast. However, because Diamond Bar doesn’t have many choices on breakfast, I will still give a 4 stars.

Excellent breakfast/lunch restaurant with plenty of Mexican & American favourites. Breakfast special is only $5 + drink, served before 8:00am. It’s generally a quiet place to eat, service is friendly and the food quality is consistently good. A go-to place for our family

I love coming here if I’m looking for a Mexican style breakfast. The chilaques here are good but they are always different everytime I order them. Sometimes they are spicy or more sweet than usual. Either way I’m fine with it. Same as for their horchata drink. Sometimes it’s so good but other times just taste like milk. Also, the carne asada is decent, sometimes too fatty. Keep in mind, I’m a picky eater so

If you come here o recommend their grand burrito, chilaques, and their chorizo skillet
