Check in before you leave on yelp or to see wait time.
One of my favorite places to go for shabu shabu. Personal shabu soups and burners for everyone which is surprisingly hard to find because most places do one big pot for the table. Personal pot allows personal customization like miso, spice, onions etc.
I’m a pretty big guy so I get the large 14 piece brisket or mokkoji house cut beef usually. Although if with someone might want to get the xxl which is 26 or 27 pieces and you’ll also save a few bucks to share a big platter.
Usually ask for garlic to add to soup not many people know to do this.
The squad is pretty great in the soup so you might want a little extra. They bring more greens free I believe.
The garlic shrimp is a wonderful start if you don’t mind peeling them. That’s the only part which isn’t my favorite.

Had the vegan broth made with kelp from Korea. Very clean broth which I like because it doesn’t interfere with meat and veggies. Their meats were superb. New York cut was so tender. Their Toro cut was out of this world. They know their meat. Their seaseme dipping was excellent and they helped me make it really spicy. Our servers brought spicy drops and 5 drops were perfect for me. On a cold day, I may do more. Will bring my family and friends here for sure.

I forgot our server’s name but he was really funny and attentive to our group! Thank you so much! (Sorry for not listening about the kimchi)

I have a friend who doesn’t like hot pot but she really enjoyed this place. I got the spicy pork broth and she got the spicy miso. The meat is good! We got the flat iron& brisket. Ask for the marinade it’s GOOOD good

The +$5 crab base was flavorful, though the crab pieces were quite small. The salmon as a main course was fresh and tasty. Veggies added to the pot were good. Shishito peppers were amazing—plenty and perfectly cooked. The iced green tea was so delicious and flavorful. Overall, a solid experience with just a few minor drawbacks, including a couple of pesky flies near the food. The server was 5-star!

We love the Mokkoji Irvine branch but never tried this Costa Mesa location. Although the food was good, I prefer the Irvine restaurant better. The brisket was cut too thick this go around so it was tough to eat. The Goma sauce as a bit thick as well.

First time at Mokkoji Shabu Shabu. We were seated right away and had a great experience during lunch. The presentation was excellent and the atmosphere was very good. The food preparation area and the hot pots were nice and clean. I ordered the beef brisket and my wife ordered the salmon. The vegetables were nicely arranged and tofu blocks were even branded. As an added plus, the brisket was pre-marinaded (I haven’t seen that at other shabu diners). The peanut sauce dip was delicious. Steven, our server, was very helpful and responsive. Overall, we had a wonderful time at Mokkoji. THANK YOU!

Other than the weird early 2000s pop music, it was a very nice experience. The meat and veggies were fresh and delicious. The broths were flavorful and well spiced. Unfortunately, I finished everything so fast that I didn’t have a chance to take a photo of the well prepared food. Perfect place to take your friends, loved ones, and significant other! Very very nice Japanese hot pot!

Plenty of parking. One restroom. The price is average shabu shabu place. The food and service are also average. The sever forgot one of the orders but it was good besides that. There are counter seating and tables. It’s difficult to carry conversations with more than two people at the counter. It seems to be a popular place. The wait was a little long.

Went here really late. Service is great. Good food and good quality beef, living the spicy sukiyaki.

Stopped by here before heading to the airport. My GF love their other location, so I’m happy that I was able to try them out. Made reservations on Yelp, but it wasn’t that busy since it was right when they opened and on a Sunday.

I ordered the Pork Belly and Spicy Broth. It wasn’t spicy. I loved that the meat was marinated, and it added flavor to the broth.

The service was ok, nothing to rave about. I’m a bit confused as I have never been asked about how many ml of wine I want. With a confused look, the server finally said 1/4 or 1/2 glass. Lol.

Overall, it’s definitely a spot I’d return to.
