Reviews
It was a relaxed atmosphere and pleasant surroundings. We were seated right away. Our waitress was Chloe. She was excellent for the entire experience.
Overall, I cannot say enough about the food. Well presented, prepared with care and attention to detail from start to finish. A good balance of seasoning and preparation. Nothing was overcooked.
I had the Veal Marsala. The veal portions were large slices, not small medallions. Served with potatoes and string beans. The veal was very tender, it could easily be cut with a fork.
Our wives had the Veal Parmesan. It was excellent.
My best friend had the lamb chops. They were well seasoned and not overcooked.
For the dessert, we chose the tiramisu. I have to say it was nearly breath-taking. Served with a dollop of whipped cream. It was one of the best I had ever tasted. Exceptionally light and flavorful. Every bite melted in your mouth. You MUST try it.
We enjoyed our experience tonight. I would certainly return to try another dish. As far as value, you get what you pay for. Quality costs.
Excellent overall. Well done!
All of the pastas we have had are excellent but our favorites are the shrimp diablo, spaghetti and meatballs, and Fruti di Mare.
The eggplant Parmesan is some of the best I have ever had and I get it every time as either an appetizer or entree. The chicken dishes are all excellent as well and the crab stuffed salmon is one of our absolute favorites as well. Portions are all great and it includes salad or soup.
We haven’t done dessert in a long time but people seemed to be enjoying it throughly as well.
Our waitress last night, Sarah, was fantastic and one of the best we have had. Keep it up Valentino’s!
Steaks were cooked per request. After two bites, my date commented that she did not like the taste of the steak as it was gamey and the texture seemed, off for a steak. Hers was well done and butterflied. Temp was correct – a huge plus. I had her try a bite of mine, not butterflied and she said it was slightly different. I tried a bite of hers and agreed that it tasted different and texture was definitely different. I thought it was maybe veal – who knows. It was not a filet I would get again either.
The server came by and we commented on her steak. She had two bites and I had one. The server said: oh no, I can take it back and tell the chef. She did so, came back and said we took half off her meal. No offer for something else for her to eat and they tossed the steak. She assumed we had been here before and had enjoyed the filet before and I corrected that this was our first experience. Then she offered a dessert on the house for her. We quickly requested the bill, paid for my meal and half hers and I took her to get dinner somewhere else as she still needed to eat.
I’ve never ever seen her turn down a filet, unless it wasn’t well done. I was not pleased with how the situation was handled at an establishment like this. Doubtful we will be back, but maybe the other dishes would be ok. It would seem that a visit from the manager, and an offer to get a pasta dish, or something she could eat, would have been appropriate. It was odd to be charged for half her meal as opposed to not charging. I have taken the time to detail out our experience. I searched reviews ahead of time and most were extremely positive. I was excited to try Valentino’s and see if it offered us another option for a nicer meal in Oxford/Lake Orion. I hope these suggestions are taken to heart, although I am not sure we will try again. Certainly will not come back for the steak.
Eventually, someone who seemed manager-adjacent appeared and asked if we had a reservation. We did not. (Important detail: the dining room was about 95% empty.) We were then informed there would be a 45–60 minute wait because the restaurant was “fully booked” at 6:00pm. For whom? Ghosts? Future diners from another timeline?
Restaurants are usually in the service industry, but Valentino’s seems to be experimenting with a bold new model: actively preventing people from eating. Innovative, but not for us. We will not be back—ever.
