Ek Bar is a modern Indian restaurant in Ottawa’s Little Italy (225 Preston Street) from Michelin‑recognised Chef Hemant Bhagwani. Inspired by India’s Indo‑British clubs—places to socialise, sip, and celebrate—we serve familiar flavours with fresh twists, designed for sharing. Expect bold spice, layered textures, and zero‑proof warmers in a relaxed, community‑minded space. Walk‑ins welcome.

Reviews
– DRINKS: The mocktail I had was pretty good.
– SERVICE: She checked on us very often and was very attentive, and walked us through the menu. Generally, great service.
– VIBE: Whoever designed the restaurant did a great job – it is very well done and pretty. While we went during a quieter night, I can imagine the atmosphere is very lively most nights.
– OTHER: They accept amex / American Express. I went here for my birthday dinner – they took 5 calendar days to respond to my initial request but didn’t force a fixed menu on my guests, which I appreciated.
Conclusion: I would visit again to try some of the other dishes. I truly wish the best for this restaurant, as we need more upscale Indian food (both in general and also in the city), especially since the city wasn’t ready for Katha.
1. Food is out of this world – some of the best I’ve had in Ottawa. Each dish has been well thought of and has a well balanced flavor profile.
2. Ambiance – furniture and decor sets the mood and makes for a pleasant ambiance
Feedback:
1. Staff needs to be trained more – one of them couldn’t explain a dish and struggled with presenting the options.
2. We were served by two waitresses where one would take our order and another would come and ask us to order. For a high end restaurant, this is mildly embarrassing.
3. The cocktail recipes need to be improved – for the price, the quality was very lacking.

Ek Bar, which has beautifully taken over the space that once housed Vivaan and Katha, offers elevated Indian street food with a menu full of vibrant, whimsical small plates made for smapling and sharing.
•
The space itself is bright, modern, and inviting, simple yet thoughtfully decorated, creating the perfect atmosphere to enjoy such creative cuisine.
•
From the moment we arrived, the service was warm and welcoming. The cocktails were well crafted, and every single dish that came to the table was a burst of colour, flavour, and texture. There is no smoke and mirrors here, just pure, exciting, and delicious food that delivers on every level.
•
What made the evening even more special was that Head Chef Teegavarapu Sarath Mohan, the genius behind the menu and a familiar face from Vivaan & Katha, recognized us, came out of the kitchen to personally welcome us, and graciously walked us through the new concept. You can see and taste the pride and care in every single plate.

We also had the pleasure of meeting the new owner, restauranteur Hemant Bhagwani, whose vision is clearly adding something fresh and experimental to Ottawa’s Indian cuisine scene.

All in all, exceptional food, exceptional people, exceptional evening. We will definitely return.
We had a fantastic dinner at EK Bar!
Our server was very polite and attentive. She knew the dishes well and was able to provide a lot of details and recommendations.
The food was outstanding. We tried a variety of dishes and each stood out from the others.
I especially enjoyed the duck Bao, but the butter chicken was the best I’ve had!
We will definitely be returning!
