One of my pet peeves around the world is the lack of proper decent food at airports . Rarely have I found truly good and reasonable priced food : especially in the United States.

I got stuck in a major 4 hour delay in the Madison Msn airport and needed to get some food . Typical as it may be , for a small yet convenient airport , the options for food are abnormally limited to Mad Town Gastropub .

I walked in a sat myself down . Fairly quiet and not very appealing atmosphere but then again it’s an airport . Waited a few minutes to get acknowledgment and the waitress came by and gave me a menu . Lunch menu is limited to handhelds (which is okay) . I asked for iced tea without sugar and they only offer the bottled versions of Brisk .

Ordered a mushroom and Gruyère burger with a side of fries . At first glance it looked decent , pictures don’t lie . It was unfortunately so greasy and salty that it was a bit hard to finish . Greasy food before an already delayed flight is not a great combo . Potatoes are obviously frozen and flavorless. What can one do though when this is the only option and stress eating is endured ?

Wait staff appear bored and not interested in being there . Prices are a bit on the expressive side too considering what you get .

I don’t know how an airport like Madison has yet to add a better quality option for dining since I would be almost certain people would pay for better options . Mad Town (Sad Town) is not the one unfortunately.

Was very hesitant to try this place based on the reviews.

Last time I came I just took my shot at convenient store grab and go sandwich for dinner. It tasted exactly what it sounds like.

Welp I’m back again. This time was debating between here, in flight food, starve or eat my arm. Decided to give this place a shot and was sat down pretty quickly. Took my drink order right away and food order.

There was at least 4 workers here on Thursday at 5.30pm so plenty of staffs.

I went with grilled chicken sandwiches for $20 and pineapple mint mimosa. Sandwich taste and looks okay on the surface. Some areas looks slightly pink so it made me nervous. I took a pic and asked ai. They confirmed raw and now I have trust issues lol it could also be the yellow lighting above me but who knows

I ditched the remainder of the chicken sandwich just to be safe but I wasn’t confident enough that it was raw to make a big deal out of it.

Service was great. Guy server (Austin W) came back and checked if I was okay couple times. Maybe next time I’ll do a burger instead but I saw a burnt burger picture in the review and got nervous.

In summary, despite all the negative press, I tried this place and it’s not bad. Maybe all the trust issues just in my head but overall
great service. The grilled chicken sandwich is pricey but tasty. Mimosa is $14 for something you can buy at grocery store for $7 but hey if you are the only legitimate restaurant in the airport you can charge what you want. If price is not an issue I wouldn’t mind coming back instead of convenience store sandwich, airplane food, starve or eat my arm.

The food is bad hospital cafetería food. There is no quality to it. The service was basically “what do you want? Here it is.”

The price seems in line with airport restaurants until you realize that a backwoods bar in wisconsin has better food at a quarter of the price. Once you see and taste the food, the price will offend you.

For an airport, there was no sense of urgency. We had to request our bill.

Yes its your only choice, but you would be better off buying snacks at airport store and sitting at a table with that.

To be fair there was only one waitress but it took quite a bit of time to get service. Once she was there she was nice. Only got the buffalo style wings, which were really tasty..and our drinks. We were only there for a snack to hold us over so for that it was ok. The drink was rather expensive but it was the airport so it’s to be expected.

Service was bad. Waitresses were standoffish and not hospitable. But the main reason for this review is the dirty dishes. My first glass was so dirty, it literally looked like it had lip prints from whoever drank out of it before. How they thought it was okay to serve out of this glass is beyond me. The fork that came wrapped in the napkin with the knife was also dirty and clearly had food on it. Disgusting. After reading the other reviews, it’s a wonder why this place is still open.

I was not helped or acknowledged when I sat down so after about 5-10 minutes I asked the server if I could go ahead and order – he curtly said he needed to enter his one order in first before being able to help me (didn’t know servers could only take one order at a time?). When he came over, he just opened his book and said “alright…” to himself and stared at me without asking if I was ready or if he could help me or anything. I uncomfortably gave him my food order (2 appetizers to try) and he asked “BOTH?”. Yes, both.

The other reviews that talk about the poor service and restaurant closing early consistently without adjusting their hours are all true. I have time stamps on my photos. Their hours were until 7pm.

At 5:17, my server hand-signaled “5-4-5” to the other servers (to signal that they would close early at 5:45) and turned the restaurant sign around.

At 5:23, my server put out ropes and turned the menu sign around to deter customers.

At 5:35, my server started flipping chairs on all the tables and turning customers away. He very aggressively would tell them that they were closing in 10 minutes and that they needed to order now and take food to go if they wanted to eat. They dimmed the lights on us as well.

After finally getting my food, a friend came to join me and since they did not want to take orders and were “closing”, she just shared what I already had on the table. We ate for a few minutes before they turned the lights off on us. Our server was on his phone behind my friend at the long table by the flipped chairs, shaking his leg anxiously for us to leave. He would let out a big sign and walk around again before coming back to lean on another counter.

We felt uncomfortable, and the lights were off, so we just got up and left before we finished our food.

The cheese curds were burnt and hard, and the pretzel bites were oily pretzel sticks with hardened cheese for dipping (though I couldn’t dip anything into it).

Incredibly unprofessional and so rude. I cannot believe how the restaurant staff were acting and treating their customers.

The waitress asked what we wanted to drink and then left. 30 minutes later a guy came out of the kitchen and we asked if we could order with him. He said he’s the cook and would be right back. He walked to the coffee place across from this restaurant and sat down to drink his coffee over there. The place has very few people as seen in the pictures but no one is being helped. This place needs to fire their morning staff. They take hourly pay as being paid to do nothing. Terrible service and menu pricing isn’t good either. Don’t waste your time.

$17.50 for a bloody mary. $20+ for a chicken sandwich. MSN airport is the worst ripoff of any airport I’ve been to on 4 continents. Compared to local economy and standards. No.

Burger was ok a bit dry, service was not great, Jeff was very rude when we asked for a menu. We wanted to just turn around and leave. Didn’t get the tiny cup of coleslaw that was included in the meal, had to ask for it.

Food is good. Service today was the worst I have seen in a long time. Saymone our server has the worst attitude. Should not be in the hospitality industry. Seems to be only one with a bad attitude.
