Kitchen worked at a snails pace. Restaurant half full and waited over an hour for food (seated at 1130, ordered food at 11:45, food arrived at 1:30). Major issue with multiple other tables being seated, served food, and paid before we ever saw food. After 1pm, only 3 tables were seated and 2 people at the bar, yet the restaurant said they were on a “kitchen hold” and could not seat any additional people. Once food arrived was warm, but homefries were french fries. Kitchen also ENTIRELY forgot an order the waitress put in after over an HOUR of waiting. Atmosphere is good with photos of Northfield through history, and good music played. Waitress was phenomenal and consistent in providing damage control. The kitchen is absolutely terrible and needs to be retrained for order prioritiziation and tracking all orders were made. Would NOT recommend coming to eat though if this kitchen pace is the standard.

The Stic has always been a landmark in Northfield Falls, and for me, it’s personal. My dad, Gary Davis, once co-owned it with longtime owner Mark Ruel, who had taken it over from his brother as their father’s legacy. I was just a baby when they renovated, but I grew up in the restaurant and commuted to school with the Ruel kids. I watched my stepmother work there with Mark and Helen. It was more than a place to eat: it was central it was to our small town. It was where the Rotary Club met, where locals came for dinner, played pool and gathered for games, and where community life unfolded.
Back then, the layout was wide open—you almost felt like you were on display when you ate there. Today, under new ownership, The Stic Kitchen & Bar has been completely transformed. The dining room has been built out with clean, blue, modern, and private booths that make the space feel more intimate. But the bar is still there for those who want to sit and watch the game or visit with the bartender and their fellows.
You’ll notice a gallery of photos along the walls. There are snapshots that chronicle the changes in Northfield Falls and those who made The Rustic (and now The Stic) what it is. Among these are images of past owners and the bar itself through the years. There is even a special cameo photo of Clovis Davis, a personal friend of my father and I.
I learned that Clovis served as a Marine in the Pacific Theater of Operations during World War II. He fought in the battles of Peleliu and Guadalcanal, and later was assigned to the Fourth Marine Regiment, 6th Division, which was among the invasion forces at Okinawa. I had the privilege of working alongside him site with my dad installing leach fields. I can attest that he carried the same honor, grit, and warmth in everyday life that he showed in service. Seeing his photograph honored here is both humbling and deeply meaningful — a reminder of the real people who built and carried this community.
Back to business…. The Stic offers a mix of hearty Vermont comfort dishes and creative twists: poutine, wings, tacos, burgers, and pizzas that range from traditional to inventive. They are named after members of the community, even Clovis. Prices are fair for the area, and the refreshed atmosphere makes it a great spot for both casual dinners and special gatherings. Even the bathrooms are beautifully redone with stylish wallpaper and clean, private stalls. Details that make a big difference.
Like any reimagined place, it’s still finding its footing—some dishes hit better than others, and customer feedback has noted room for improvement, especially with certain menu items and service responsiveness. Even though we were some of the only people there, they came out with the dishes and weren’t sure who got which plate. I remember that Jamie could take the orders of a table of 30 people without writing a single order down. Even if they switched seats she knew who got what. But overall, the new Stic honors its legacy while carving out a fresh identity.
For me, walking in is a mix of nostalgia and excitement. I remember the open floor, the pool tables, the familiar faces of staff and regulars—including my own family—and now I see a polished, modern space that will hopefully still serve as a community hub. The Stic has always been about connection, and it’s good to see that tradition continue in a new way.

The food here was delicious! I ordered the haddock which was tender and flavorful, and it came with a “vegetable of the day” which ended up being a squash casserole that turned out to be the star of the meal.
The waitress was attentive and friendly. She brought our table a bowl of popcorn- I’m not sure if this is typical on a visit here or something special since we have young kids.
The only thing I can really complain about is that, for a place whose name is short for “rustic”, it’s a little too squeaky clean! Everything was exceptionally new, with neatly arranged square canvas prints of old photos along the walls being the only indication of anything rustic. If you’re searching for that old-time small-town diner feel you won’t find it here, but the food and service is great!

I have ordered takeout a few times and it has been great. The garlic parm wings are delicious, albeit a little too much butter. They have GREAT ranch, which is a big plus for me! Our company did our holiday party there and the menu was divine – the steak tips were so tender and the maple mustard glazed chicken was my favorite (especially cut up and put on my salad). Thanks for being a great addition to the Northfield food scene!

Ate here on 1/31/26. Pluses: my burger was cooked well and the fries were very tasty. Our server was very good. Minuses: the made a “Manhattan” that was not actually a Manhattan. Didn’t send it back. Also tried a cosmo and it was watery and just not special. We’d earlier been told we couldn’t sit at the bar while we were waiting for our table because the bartender was overwhelmed. Never been told that before! Anyway I’m sorry that was the case and I’m sure they’re a nice person but they don’t know how to make basic cocktails well. I’ll go back at some point and hopefully they will have upped their skills.

I can’t believe we didn’t take photos of our food. We had chips and dip, and fish tacos. The food was delicious and fresh. The service was great, and the overall experience was really good. Highly recommend.

We stopped in after an event at Norwich University with our Cadets. We ordered a lot: poutine and pizza for apps. Sandwiches for our meals: burgers, cheesesteak and a chicken sandwich. The ‘kids’ ordered desserts.
The kitchen has some kinks to work out/learn the menu. Medium burgers came out well done, and other meals came out missing ingredients and sides. The poutine and pizza were delicious starts to our time at The Stic. Service was great and even with the hiccups we are very much looking forward to returning, because overall the food was tasty and service great.

Service was great. The food appeared to be all frozen sysco products. Chicken tenders had decent flavor, i think the wings were fresh, the burger patties were preformed and clearly frozen. They were dry and salty. The burger bun, also had signs of being frozen.
The mixed drinks were weak and too sweet.
I’d hoped for a better experience. Im sad that it didnt live up to the hype. Our waitress was making sure we were taken care of. ( I think we were her only table.)
We might go back and try the pizza.

A group of 7 gathered for an early evening dinner.. EVERYONE was very HAPPY with their meal.. from the Poutaine, to the fish tacos, and the Bacon Blue Burgers.. not to mention the cocktails, was fantastic! The service was also top-notch as all of the food was delivered HOT and TASTY ❣️ despite a PACKED HOUSE!

Party of 7 our waitress was extremely attentive our orders in appetizers came out in the right order and very timely we were not rushed. The food was very good. we had appetizers consisting of salsa and chips, quesadilla, chicken wings all delicious our meals arranged from a caesar salad to some tacos steak tips and some haddock. Was most enjoyed by everyone the homemade french fries and the delicious onion rings were a plus. We also couldn’t resist to try the desserts we tried the strawberry cake that was on special although not my favorite there was absolutely nothing wrong with it and others enjoyed it, also I’m delighted in trying the carrot cake and the deep fried brownie sundae which was out of this world. This family will definitely be coming back.
