Egypt Star Bakery has been a landmark since the 1930’s. Since then, the local bakery has been family owned, employing neighbors and their family members for over eighty years. Sticking to tradition, the ovens we bake our bread in are brick ovens operated by gas, coal and oil; most of them have been in our bakery for more than 8 decades. We continue to strive to produce high quality, popular bakery items to please both the wonderful customers we’ve known for many years and those we add every day. From breads, rolls, and buns to danishes, cupcakes, cookies, and custom cakes, we have something for everyone and we love to try new things! Stop in any day of the week for a delicious, fresh, handcrafted treat.

It wasn’t nice at all!
Our family of four includes our 10yo daughter who was having a tough time deciding between the delicious looking baked goods. She asked several questions about what things were and how much they cost (I gave her a budget). Eventually 3 of us had selected our items and some more customers had entered. The lady at the register gave me the total ($4.91) and told me that we needed to go because of the other customers. Please note that our daughter had not selected her item.
I gave my daughter the whole 3,2,1 count down then was told by the lady at the register that we needed to go. I gave her a $20 and grabbed the bags of 3 items and left.
Shortly, I noticed that my wife and daughter were still inside. I returned and dragged my daughter out without a treat, crying. My wife was given $4.41 in change.
I called back and told the lady how upset I am and that we would not come back.
Later to add insult to injury I realized that we were cheated out of $10.68 of our change.
Hopefully my daughter will enjoy the item I selected as I no longer have any interest in it.
Should you decide to go to Egypt Star, I sure hope that you know exactly what you want so you don’t risk inconveniencing the shop keeper or their other, more valuable, customers.
Update:
Two days later, I realized my mistake. I have committed to my children to strive to do better in the future. When faced with such blatant rudeness and disrespect towards me our my family I will do my best to walk away. Such a person does not deserve my business and I don’t need to let it upset me so much. There are other bakeries in Emmaus, especially during the Farmer’s Market on Sundays, that will likely serve me (and you) better.
