This was our second time there since they reopened and I would have to say that it was a totally different set of staff working there again while the food quality was similar. My companion enjoyed his Bison Bolognese pasta and I liked my Pork chop although it was a bit undercooked for my taste.
The service was great, specially our waitress who was extremely friendly and helpful. The decor and the atmosphere are now different than the original Arable. But I can see that they are trying. It’s just that they might not have found their own identity.
FOOD: Under new management so we tried it out: Anything grilled was good (burger, steak, etc.). Calamari was good, but the sauce was not. Brussels sprouts were dry. Garlic in spinach was nearly raw.
SERVICE:
I ordered a drink and without asking me got a completely different drink because “they didn’t know how to make it”. The manager for the front decided to have long and loud conversations with every table, including telling an off-color joke to one of the tables. He was all about the TMI.
We’ve been there probably a dozen or more times since they opened. The issues at first we chalked up to being new, but it’s way past that now.
It’s like they can’t decide who they want to be. The quality of the ingredients seems to be fine, but then they screw it up in the kitchen. Brussels were so much better at the beginning, and they’ve tried it w bacon (yum) ; vegetarian with caramelized onions and vinegar, also yum. Now, it’s this nasty, greasy half burnt half undercooked glob w about 1/10 a teaspoon of Parm on it. It’s nasty. I don’t understand why you changed it, but it’s gross. So many wonderful options with good sprouts this time of year, it would be so wonderful to have tasty ones again.
A few pro tips: French onion soup should not reek of black pepper. It should be sublime and taste of wine and broth and onion. All I can taste is black pepper, and the stock is burnt.
Caesar salad should NOT be overrun with cayenne pepper. Why did you start doing that? It’s a sacrilege. The lettuce is wilty and limp and all you can taste in the dressing is stale cayenne.. it was SO good at first. Why change it? It’s stale cayenne. Omg no. No.
The bun should not be served frozen and twice as big as the burger.
And so on. You guys have such a great model and so much potential. The space is awesome. The staff is super sweet, but there is nothing cohesive. They literally all seem like they are brand new and I know they’ve been there as long as we’ve been going.
We should not have to wait an hour for food when there are only 4 other people there and then it’s still not right.
Final for us was a recent carry out. 2 soups, 1 salad and 1 sprouts was $50. They told us 20 minutes and it took an hour. The bag was so poorly packed the soup spilled all over the car. The sprouts were a mess of oil and grease and just nasty. We tossed them and most of the salad, and lost most of the soup due to the poor pack job. We supplemented our $50 dinner with PB&j because pretty much the whole thing was spilled in the car or simply too disgusting to eat.
We won’t return any time soon and it’ s a bummer because we were so hopeful this would be good. If you can get back to how your kitchen was in the beginning , please respond to this and we’ll come try again, but after this and the last carry-out, we are pretty much done .
