Located in downtown Richmond, The British Embassy Fish & Chips offers a unique dual-concept dining experience, blending authentic British and Thai cuisines. Founded by Joy Supanya and Jon Niemiec, the restaurant began as a Thai food truck in 2019 and evolved into a brick-and-mortar establishment that introduced British classics like fish and chips, bangers and mash, and sticky toffee pudding. In May 2025, the Thai menu was reintroduced, allowing patrons to enjoy dishes from both cultures under one roof. With a commitment to homemade recipes, vegan and gluten-free options, and a welcoming atmosphere complete with a bar and happy hour, The British Embassy is a culinary destination for diverse palates.

We had never been to Richmond before and when googling places to eat this one came up. It was delicious. The food was hot. The service was great. We got the Cod and Chips and the Haddock an chips and we ordered the homemade spring rolls.

I will admit, I was a bit skeptical walking in since it wasn’t crowded at all. My worries were instantly dispelled after the first bite. The food was amazing, being flavorful and crispy without being too oily. Easily up there as some of my favorite fish and chips. Wonderful service and a place I’d not hesitate to go back to the next day.

Good food, good people/staff, good ambiance! Perfect British Pub vibes! Cute decor for photo ops. Not pictured: Had the beer battered haddock & chips, a scotch egg, and curry puffs; pictured: sausage rolls… all very good! 10/10 would eat again

My wife and I certainly enjoyed our first visit to The British Embassy in downtown Richmond! We usually visit new fooderies in the afternoon just before the dinner folks arrive. The cozy restaurant was exceptionally clean and airy. Our charming server was most friendly and courteous as we ordered the cod fish and chips and of course, Guinness to compliment the meal. Our meals were served nice and hot. The fish was very tasty with a mild flavorful batter-coating and the chips were substantially light, fluffy, and mealy, with a soft, cooked potato texture and not greasy. (Unlike the standard crispy, standard-fare French fries from a fast food place.) We chose the sticky toffee pudding as dessert and what a treat! We look forward to our next visit to sample the other British-style offerings. The Thai selections on the menu are also very tempting.

Great food, attentive staff, and a cozy atmosphere. A unique combination of food as they have both Thai and traditional British fare. For those with celiac or a gluten allergy, they have gluten free fish and chips as well as sticky toffee pudding which my girlfriend confirmed were both delicious!

Lives up to the hype! Really good fish and chips, of which I’ve had many bad ones, and yummy pad thai too. It’s not fast food, you do have a wait a little bit. Food comes out piping hot. The portions aren’t so enormous that you’ll certainly have leftovers, but plenty to make one adult feel very full. Beatles plays what appears to be 24/7, which I wonder how the staff isn’t going a bit crazy over. Prices aren’t cheap but also not overtly expensive, you’ll pay nearly $20 per entre. Worth it for a special treat but it would be difficult to be a regular spot. The desert was delicious and moist! Would give 4.5 stars if I could, mostly due to price of what are delicious but common street food dishes.

I wish there were more stars to select. I’ve lived in the USA 30+ years and this is the closest I’ve had to “proper” fish n chips. I opted for traditional, good olde “cod”, they do offer haddock too, and GF option.
The chips were chunky, the cod flaky, and the batter, what can I say, perfect! They even serve it with a curry sauce for dipping, not that I’m a fan, but very British. You need to try it, home from home! I’ll be back, again and again for sure.

Walking by, We loved the brightness of the red, white, and blue. Inside is welcoming and cozy. The owner was the true star of the evening. He is personable , charming, funny and gracious. I had the GF cod n chips. It was outstanding! The batter tasted so buttery and crunchy it was delicious. The cod was so light and flaky, moist and flavorful!! Exactly what a proper fish n chips should taste like. The fries (chips) were okay. My guy had the bangers and mash. He said it was superb! I tasted it and really loved it! Afterwards, three of us at the table shared the Sticky Toffee Pudding. This was the very best I’ve tasted. It was not dry cake. The toffee coating was so incredibly flavorful that I wanted it all myself! Haha

My husband and I stopped by today for the first time today and will definitely be coming back. We loved the scotch eggs (which were cooked perfectly) and the haddock and chips. The fish came with a curry sauce that was a delicious addition and we loved the chips so much we ordered more. We also ordered the onion rings but finished then too quickly to get a picture! Great and quick service.
