A must do while visiting OIB. Go at the beginning of your stay, so you can grab a koozie cup. Then you could go back later for a refill or they have several carts that go up and down the beach (beach is cash only). The carts will usually have about 4 flavors on hand. If there’s a long line outside, which they’re usually is, go inside, the wait is usually shorter.
They also serve Blue Bell ice cream and you can do a combo with ice cream and Italian ice, I recommend blue vanilla with vanilla ice cream.
There are probably 10 different koozie colors.

We call them Black and Yellow because of the black and yellow umbrellas on the carts at the beach. The store is much better than the carts because they have so much more variety. The also have ice cream and it’s blue bell which is my favorite. The staff is really nice and helpful.

Great treat, especially? for anyone who is lactose intolerant. Staff was friendly. Parking it’s not great but they are also across from a nice park.

A wide variety of great flavors, I am a big fan of their mango, although I also like pineapple. They also have Blue Bell ice cream, and I think their butter pecan is the best of any commercial brand.
Outdoor seating draws crowds of families and locals every night during summer. There’s also a candy shop inside.

To be completely honest. I get Sunset Slush almost twice a day while on vacation! It is great and I believe the prices are reasonable! If you have gone on vacation to any of the beaches in Brunswick County, NC, you MUST try this italian ice because it is like no other!

Sunset slush is simply amazing. Its always a must have when you’re here. Nothing cools you off like it does after sitting on the beach all day. They have a wife variety of flavors and i haven’t had a bad flavor yet!!!!!!!!!

Had our first experience with Sunset Slush this past weekend while on vacation and it did not disappoint! The mango, watermelon, peppermint, cherry, and peach flavors were our favorites! So refreshing and a perfect combination with being on the beach.

Get a koozie cup the first day, and carry it with you everywhere, along with a spoon or even straw! A cart rolls by on the beach periodically, even during the hottest part of the day. If you decide to the leave the island for a bit, there is another location on the way toward Calabash. The Italian ice flavor combos I’ve tried are all good, and honestly the Blue Bunny ice cream they sell is just as good as most other ice cream shops in the area. I went back every night of my vacation! I just really wish they had gelati flavor combos on the menu, but they don’t… so… here are the the three combinations I like most out of what I tried:
1. Pineapple Italian ice + sea salt caramel ice cream = “pineapple upside down cake” gelati
2. Coconut cream Italian ice + rocky road ice cream = “girl scout Samoa cookie” gelati
3. Root beer or cola Italian ice + vanilla bean ice cream = “soda float” gelati

Where do I even begin. Blue vanilla stands out as the best Italian ice flavor at Sunset Slush in North Carolina due to its unique and enchanting taste. This flavor combines the classic sweetness of vanilla with a hint of blueberry, creating a refreshing and creamy experience that is both familiar and exciting. The vibrant blue color adds a visual appeal that is perfect for hot summer days, making it a popular choice among both children and adults. Additionally, the smooth texture of Sunset Slush’s Italian ice enhances the enjoyment of blue vanilla, as it melts perfectly on the tongue. Patrons often praise this flavor for its balanced sweetness and refreshing aftertaste, which lingers pleasantly. Blue vanilla is not just a treat but an experience that captures the essence of summer in North Carolina.
