Meat Mitch Kansas City Airport: Savor Quality BBQ at Your …
Championship BBQ, Burnt Ends, Ribs & More – Meat Mitch BBQ Menu
Reviews
First off – two positives. Service is surprisingly fast (which is important at an airport). And the burnt ends had good flavor and texture. They could’ve been a little warmer but I’ll not quibble about that. This was the best barbecue I’ve had – at an airport. The baked beans were really good. Full of meat. The slaw was fine. Nothing special. The curly fries (which I didn’t order; they mistakenly added them to my platter) weren’t great. But my server was pleasant and attentive.
Kids entré options below:
(Served with side of applesauce or fries)
Smoked Turkey Sandwich
Pulled Pork Sandwich
Mac & Cheese
Cheeseburger
Chicken Fingers
Fast service, good variety of barbecue sauces (i.e. heat, tangy, and og), the brisket burnt ends were the best, the pulled pork was a little dry and underseasoned, and luke warm. The coleslaw was fine but needed more acid and I like it with heat (I would add horseradish). The mac&cheese was not warm, so the cheese sauce was making the noodles clump together, and it was underseasoned.
I’m grading here on a curve based on my experience with airport food, so I’d still give it a 4/5. The burnt ends and the sauces really were exceptional. Overall, if I’d chosen a different side than the mac&cheese and maybe went with the potato salad, it probably would’ve been a better selection.
I will eat here again.
1. Brisket is excellent
2. Pulled pork is great
3. The potato salad is especially good
TLDR: We left Meat Mitch’s Barbecue after being ignored for 25 minutes by a slow-moving, inattentive hostess who prioritized a single-serve takeout order over seating us, or taking our order. We were excited to try the BBQ but were disappointed by the poor service. We then went to Martin City Brewing Company and had a great experience with quick service and great food!
Full Rant:
The hostess/waitress took 5 minutes to acknowledge our presence before seating us, shuffling around the restaurant doing just enough movement to extricate herself from taking our orders.
She then took a walk-in / take-out order for some busybody boomer who was in a hurry (most likely to avoid the hassle of waiting on the waitress I guess). We sat for about 20 minutes, the boomer got her take-out order.
The waitress ignored us for another 5 minutes and we decided to leave.
Overall I was really hoping to try the place because my family and I have seen it a few times and decided to give it a try. Welove BBQ but unfortunately the hostess and the staff were either too unmotivated, too understaffed, or too unqualified to help us out with our anticipated culinary adventure.
Good thing the folks over at Martin City Brewing Company know how to balance bustle, hustle, and brews! We were seated and orders taken, and delivered within the amount of time it was taken to write this review (about 20 minutes total).
P.S. I rarely write reviews, and am pretty used to sub-par service, but this one warranted the forewarning. If your store hours are listed from 11am to 10pm, you should put a disclaimer up saying you’ll start shying from service by 7.
