Phở Gà Vàng | Restaurants in Two Bridges, New York – Time Out
Reviews
I ordered the pho with chicken liver and gizzards, and it was amazing. The broth had so much depth—rich, balanced with herbs, onions, and aromatics—and the chicken bits were generous, adding great texture. At $14.99, it felt like a solid deal for the quality and portion size.
The staff was super friendly and attentive, making sure I had a good experience and even suggesting other dishes. I also tried the passionfruit lemon green tea, which was so refreshing and packed with flavor.
The vibe of the place made it even better! Photos framed on the walls, funny chicken prints here and there, it felt unique and welcoming. Overall, it was a great experience, and I’m already looking forward to coming back. Definitely worth it.
Update 11/14/24:
Got the Shredded Chicken Pho
Very light broth, flavorful and very mildly salted. Very good.
With the colder temperatures they have started to offer Hot Tea, which is a bonus.
There is also a bathroom in the back.
I came across the Pho Ga Vang restaurant in New York during a sejour living in the area on the lower east side. It was by happenstance as I walked by and saw it on Market Street as I was freezing my bottom off. I popped in for lunch. A scrumptious decision indeed!
I’ve dined here and returned quite a few times and the food is fresh and very authentic. I’m a big fan of family grown or run Asian American restaurants as an Asian American journalist myself. This one had quite some history, which I’ll enjoy telling you about as a South East Asian broadcaster who spent 38 years in the region on and off.
The restaurant is owned by a Vietnamese immigrant to the United States, Tony, who was a refugee to the US during the Vietnam War. His family made a brave and poignant journey via Hong Kong to arrive in California in 1978. They opened their first restaurant in Philadelphia – which now has 2 outlets in the area – and another restaurant followed in Falls Church, Virginia. A new branch in California is coming up in a few months. Tony’s small burgeoning empire of Vietnamese restaurants across the country.
The name of the game at the Pho Ga Vang restaurant is chicken, chicken, chicken with posters of chickens everywhere so I was humming this song during my time there:
Old MacDonald had a farm
Ee i ee i o
And on his farm he had some chicks
Ee i ee i o
With a cluck-cluck here
And a cluck-cluck there
Here a cluck, there a cluck
Everywhere a cluck-cluck
The meaning of the restaurants name (translated from Vietnamese) is aptly “yellow chicken noodles.” Their signature soup broth is made from scratch daily and is so fresh and deliciously out of this world!
My favourite dishes at Pho Ga Vang are:
For starters, the nems or spring rolls and summer rolls. These are prepared to perfection – so reminiscent of my Paris student days where there is also a large immigrant Vietnamese community. I highly recommend these nems, big time !
Onto mains: the beef stew pho is a hearty, nourishing and flavorful meal with a combination of very tender beef cubes, vermicelli noodles, beans, herbs and the most yummy beef broth. It’s quite like a western stew but with some Asian Vietnamese kick with the spice and condiments! The lemon grass chicken pho is also exceptionally good and rich in authentic Vietnamese taste. The broths at Pho Ga Vang are the perfect steaming hot meal (giving you a hot facial too!) for a chilly New York winters day.
The grilled pork rice dish (com thit nuong) is very tasty with the rice cooked in chicken broth and the meat caramelisation preparation but a little fatty for my taste so ask the chef to trim the fat off if if possible so it’s lean especially if you are a health conscious buff like me. This plate also comes with a lovely salad and soup to boot. The portions at this restaurant are enormous, good for sharing and great value for money.
I’d say this restaurant is ideal for casual business or lunch dates and definitely for student dinners. It’s fuss free, minimalistic and simple. I enjoyed being surrounded by the voices of the Asian millennial community as diners who clearly enjoyed tucking into a real Asian meal, as much as I did. The best sign of the authenticity of a restaurant, I reckon, are its customers!
One of the very special things about this restaurant is the service. The staff are so pleasant, kind and friendly. Hence I have returned three times (and counting) for a meal there.
It’s very popular spot and oh so crowded on weekend lunchtimes until 2:30 pm ‘ish. So drop by for an early or late for lunch to avoid a big queue. On weekday lunchtimes the restaurant is not too crowded.
I wish you a wonderful meal at this Vietnamese treasure trove of deliciously authentic cuisine, gentle hospitality and service!
At first glance, Pho Ga Vang might look like any other pho spot—simple, cozy, and unassuming. But don’t let appearances fool you—this place delivers on flavor in a big way.
They use one broth only: chicken, and it’s absolutely fantastic. The broth has a deep, rich flavor that hits all the right notes—comforting, savory, and soul-warming. Honestly, I didn’t realize just how good it was until I tried other pho spots. The broth here just hits differently—you can taste the care and quality in every sip.
Their chicken is just as impressive: tender, juicy, and flavorful, with that signature yellow skin that hints at quality and tradition.
Yes, the price might be a bit higher than other local spots, but the portion sizes are generous and they accept cards (a plus!). The staff is friendly and welcoming, which makes the experience even better.
If you’re a chicken lover, this place is a dream. The grilled lemongrass chicken is another standout—fragrant, flavorful, and pairs perfectly with both rice and noodles. It’s a must-try alongside the pho.
I’ve tried a lot of pho around the area, and while each spot has its own twist, Pho Ga Vang stands out for its simplicity, consistency, and deliciousness. If you want satisfying, chicken-based Vietnamese comfort food, this is the spot.
The portions for the half chicken was very generous. The accompanied tangy and salty sauce paired well with the chicken. There was also a sweet chili sauce that wasn’t overbearingingly sweet like other sweet chili sauces. They also include gizzard and liver! Some places give the blood as well but not this place.
I definitely recommend this place for a no frills and simple chicken pho. The workers were very kind. I definitely plan to come again to try the other items in their menu.
