We really enjoyed this place! I think it deserves more hype. We went on a Saturday night and were seated quickly. The staff were nice, the atmosphere of the restaurant is nice, but I’m writing the review because the food was AMAZING! We loved all of it. The menu is very diverse with some traditional dishes in addition to all the Tex Mex classics.

I had high hopes based on reports from friends and other reviews. Any place that offers Chile Colorado grabs my attention. Here’s the good: tableside guacamole. They give you a mound, more than what two folks can eat, loaded with onions, jalapeños, cilantro and lime. The chile relleno isn’t the eggy kind and has a great taste to it. Rice and beans good. We wanted to love the enchiladas but the red sauce tasted as if out of a can. The Chile Colorado sauce was very smoky, unlike the NM red chile that usually accompanies the strips of steak. Service was excellent including free refills on drinks.

We had an amazing experience at San Jose Mexican Restaurant in Amarillo! The food was fresh, flavorful, and absolutely hit the spot. The highlight of the night was the fresh guacamole prepared right in front of our table was so delicious and packed with flavor. You can really taste the freshness.
Great service, great atmosphere, and incredible food. We’ll definitely be back and highly recommend it to anyone looking for authentic Mexican food in Amarillo!

Was iffy about trying this place out just because of mixed reviews. But I have to say it was really good, food was hot and had flavor. Chips and salsa was good and chips tasted fresh. Will be coming back again.

The steak nachos gave my friends food poisoning. The table side guac was pretty good just too spicy and the rice was kind of dry. It was a nice experience but deffinately won’t be back because of the food poisoning. All in all the food was below average, the atmosphere was nice a pretty inside but the food poisoning was the nail in the coffin. Make sure in the future you cooks do there job correctly so people dont get sick

First time I ate at his place was last week. First impression when I walked I saw the Gothic look booths all in black. Now the service from the wait staff were excellent and very nice and professional. I had the chicken fajitas dinner plate. The meat of the chicken was so tender that I did not even need a steak knife to cut through, good thing they give you butter knifes instead of steak knives. Now the chicken fajitas were not at all flavor able I ended had to put extra salt and their hot sauce and pico de Gallo to flavor it. Rice is good but not great. Now the Guacamole was good and their sour cream. Now this is only my opinion everyone has different taste buds but was not the greatest restaurant in Amarillo to eat at after hearing how great this restaurant is. Does not have the feel of a Mexican restaurant. The one great thing I do love here are the workers, they are very attentive and excellent staff!!

This restaurant has a great atmosphere. Staff were friendly and service was great! Hands down the BEST guacamole I’ve ever had and I felt like their pricing was very fair. The menu is HUGE with lots of options. I do wish the fajitas would’ve came out sizzling hot but that was my one tiny & only complaint.

We ordered the Molcajete Mex ($42 fajitas for 2). It came out, not as hot as it should’ve. It wasn’t even sizzling. It came out in five minutes, which is probably the reason why. The food is not freshly cooked to order. I understand that some Mexican food is not really able to be made to order i.e. enchiladas and tamales. But fajitas should always be freshly made to order. The meats are all underseasoned. The dish only included the meats, veggies, beans, rice, tortillas. The waitress asked us if we needed anything else and we asked her for sour cream and a few more tortillas. When we got the bill, they charged us an extra $2.50 for these and our waitress never told us about that. Sorry, but I won’t be returning good luck in your business ventures.

Main course,
I got the Chipotle Enchilada with chicken, my wife got the grilled chicken street tacos. Both plates full of flavor, great portions, and spectacularly presented.
Did not have any room for dessert but maybe next time.
Will definitely re-visit.
